I was watching Reagan’s funeral procession yesterday and it was the persistent thought that was running through my head. Like him or hate him, you probably respected him.

He was the first President that I voted for and the reason that I joined the Republican party.

I disagreed with most of his poilicies, but respected the mans ability to lead, articulate his position and connect with people. When he looked into the camera you felt he was speaking to you personally.

Buckwheat,
Thanks for a Reagan thread without the political overtones and bombastic rhetoric.

"Buckwheat,

Doesn't this quote in and of itself create political overtones?

I can only control what I say (at least most of the time ;-} It certainly wasn't intended to be a political thread.

The Great Communicator. When he was in office I never really thought much about his communicative abilities, like any president after a couple of years they start to drone on and on. But hearing again his speeches confirms for me that he truly was a great communicator.

Clinton made me a Republican, but Reagan got me interested in politics.

When people pass away that we know, particularily famous ones, it's pretty much the only time we look at their life objectively. The pros are respected in reverance, and the cons are mentioned as a matter of perspective.

Nobody lives their life perfectly, but when someone passes on, we all give our respects to a fellow human being who has taken the final step on the great journey. They don't need to be diefied, but they are certainly entitled to be remembered for their contributions to history.

Yours,
Sheila

God Bless RR and His Family...

as I stated in another post... I started into the Military under Reagan's Presidency... and back in the 80's it was a tough time for many.. some of the man's policies I did not agree with, but the after effects of what he set in place on Many Many issue's over this Globe/World have and were for better not worse...
I am Honored to end my Military Career on the same Date they laid him to Rest... June 11, 2004

as Sheila points out above.. could not have been said any better...

Hey Hog! Some of the things being said on some of the threads lately sicken me! It's bad enough that one of our past leaders is just laid to rest, even before he was in the ground, the jackels were mutilating his legacy, and assasinating the mans character. I may have to take a hiatus, my opiions of several people on here has fallen, and I see several newbies posting that don't even rate a reply!

I didn't say I quit, just that it sickens me some lately! :) I got to keep in touch with my BIA, even if some of the BOTL have shaken my faith in the basic decency of mankind.
