I just heard about this from a co-worker tonight and came home to check it out on the web. Seems that the NHL might go belly up due to the lock out because of salary caps. However, there's a new hockey federation on the scene: the World Hockey Association. They've got salary caps too, but those regulations were worked out as part of the creation of the league.

I must say, I hope not to part with my dear old Toronto Make Ya Laughs... there's something nostalgic about 'em. However, if the NHL does gotta go, at least there will be a new organization to fill the void.

Yours,
Sheila.

You had to know this was going to happen. NBA type salaries with very low TV revenues. That and the fact that the ticket prices are way too high.

I love Hockey and have since the 60's. But we may not be seeing any for quite awhile. That's what they get for hiring Stern's clone (Bettman) who tries to run it like the NBA.

I am not a baseball fan.

If hockey, the greatest sport in the world, dies I am diehard football. No other sport contains the non-stop action of hockey.

They are pricing us poor folks out though. Had to give up my season tickets 9 years ago.

its funny, because if they showed it on T.V. more I would watch it, but they don't show it on T.V. because no one watches it. I can watch the occasional game but its too hard for me to follow throughout the season by just seeing highlights on ESPN.

I can say the same for soccer. I love to watch the sport, but the mexican leagues just don't interest me, if they showed the european or South American league games I would follow it as passionately as I do baseball, unfortunatley they don't.

My cabke company just announced that they will be adding ESPN2 now so maybe things will change in that regard.

ESPN2 will help you out, but getting a local sports package or NHL Center Ice on DirecTV is THE only way to stay on top of the sport!

When I couldn't afford the season tickets...this is where I went!

It's affectionate name calling, they're my favourite team too, Fritz. :) I just get ruffled that they make it most years to the play offs and then blow it.

Yours,
Sheila

I believe we need to only allow eight teams in the playoffs; shorten the season; and quit playing with the rules (I think Bettman has seriously damaged the NHL) Thanks for the reply Sheila.

GO Leafs GO (including Domi, The Eagle, Mats and rest)

Ok, ok. Resident Hockey pro here to get you boys and girls in line. The NHL isn't going anywhere. The WHL is just another minor league. The NHL already has all the contracts w/ media, sponsors, etc.

Bettman has seriously hurt the league - enforce the rules and the game will be fine. Leave the game alone - it's the best one out there as is.
