To all those out there who enjoy a pipe, hello. I have several pipes, and enjoy both a good bowl and a good cigar.

I was wondering, those of you who are familiar with meerschaum, what do you smoke in your meerschaums?

I recently won a large, apple/prince carved by mastercarver I. Bekler (the guy who carves for CAO). It was unsmoked and signed by Bekler. I don't think that it is a CAO, despite the fact that it looks and presents just like the CAO pipes, because it lacks the CAO in a diamond logo. Anyway, I won this in an auction for $29. The guy had it listed in a strange way, and I think that it slipped under the radar.

It arrived today, and I was trying to decide if I want to use it for Virginia flakes (Marlin Flake)or for english type mixtures (Dunhill 965). I have never had a meerschaum before, and was wondering what everyone else smoked in theirs.

I had a gorgeous meerschaum many years ago with a lovely true amber stem.

When it was new, I smoked only balck cavendish in it to accomplishe a nice red hue to the bowl. Seasoned up real well and faster than smoking lighter blends.

I have since lost it...maybe hoping to see it turn up in the bottom of a box sometime.

Calavera,

Congratulations on fine purchase. When I was a daily pipe smoker I preferred meerschaum pipes. My two favorites for coloring them up were Mac Baren’s Plum Cake and Balkan Sasieni.

Smoked a bowl of Marlin Flake (virginia) in the meerschaum. The rim of the bowl is starting to develop a nice reddish brown cast. I tried to avoid touching the bowl or shank while warm, so as not to mess up the coloring process. I didn't really notice a huge difference between the meer and my regular Kirsten.
