just read this over at www.slate.msn.com (a snippet from the washington post) and thought it rang very true -- particularly the last line.

what IS kerry's plan with iraq and afghanistan? anyone have any concrete statements from the man about this?

anyway, here's the quote:

"Sadly, Kerry's me-too approach to the Sept. 11 commission is of a piece with his bland flag-waving on foreign policy in general. America is a nation at war. Yet we have no sense, even after Kerry has been nominated, of just what policies he would pursue in Iraq and the Middle East. There's a three-alarm blaze outside and he's telling us he supports the fire department."

Personally, I've never heard him claim he had one. He makes references to patching up differences with our European "friends", but that's a joke and wise people see right through it. Our European "friends" were bilking the UN's oil-for-food program and selling arms and other restricted items to Saddam. As long as the money was flowing they were going to protect their interests. These same European "friends" couldn't come to the aid of one of their own and it took US involvement to end the hostilities in Yugoslavia. With friends like them...who needs enemies.

see, that's something i am not okay with. everyone's for more jobs. everyone's for better education. rah rah rah. but i want some "this is what i intend to do about it" when it comes to the WARS we're involved in right now. that's kind of, um, important. :P

this isn't some card game in vegas. i want to know what foreign policy doctrine i'm voting or not voting for.

i won't support any candidate with an "i'll tell you after the election" stance on something that important.

Cavallo,

I agree with you... I would be open to voting for someone that had a more specifs and a better plan than Bush. However, I don't see ANYTHING specific in any of Kerry's statements. I have read everything I can find on what he has been saying and it seems to be all emty hoopla.

Rickmaven or anyone else out there... Anyone have any concrete specifics on Kerry's plans? If so I would seriously like to see it as (while I don't agree with them all) Bush does have concrete plans and policies. I would like to compare "apples to apples" and right now can't do so.

Cheers

Both parties promise more jobs every four years. Do voters still fall for that?

Macs,I'm sorry but he lost me after he gave that "we have prevailed" speech over a year ago. This has nothing to do with the military but the reason behind putting them he harm's way. BTW,LMK when ya gets back. X

What is Kerry's plan. Simply to get elected. How to do that? Wrap himself in the flag as a decorated Vet (which he is)and try to avoid proposing ANY NEW IDEAS which could become a political target. Remind people over and over again of Viet Nam and try to avoid discussin his Senate record....and hope that there is enought hate for W for the undecided will vote him into the White House.

Tell people in very simple terms "what I will do, blah blah" (make sure it's what the particular people he is speaking to at that time wants to here)and avoid any debate on the key issues. Keep it VERY generic.

You heard very little at the DNC on:

Abortion
Gay Marriage
The Economy (specific anyway)
Management of the post war effort

It appears to be the strategy of the DNC and it might just work. If you are a supporter of Bush, you better hope for the low voter turnout caused by bad weather.

In short Tony, you won't get a Kerry plan.

What is said is of monumental insignifigance. Look at the respective records. Kerry has a 19 year record of voting against the military and intelligence community at every opportunity. He stabbed his fellow Viet Nam vets in the back with his lies about attrocities etc after he had bailed on his shipmates after 4 months in country. If he did in fact have 3 wounds they were certainly very minor. I disagree with much that Bush has done but in a fight he's a better leader. Ask Al Queida who they want as president?

the one thing i've heard about kerry's plan (to get elected) is that he's trying to keep a lower profile and not make a big hoopla -- he's trying to be a "small target" in other words. the more bombastic a candidate is, the bigger a target s/he is.

for that reason, kerry's not getting too specific. you can't shoot down plans that aren't being tossed out there. the problem is, if you don't toss those plans out there, no one knows for sure what they are.

so from that, all i can deduce is that kerry's campaign folks are counting on him getting MORE VOTES AGAINST BUSH than FOR KERRY. they're counting on the public not necessarily caring what kerry's plan is -- just that he's not GWB.

that's pretty sad for all americans when the main thrust of a campaign is "i'm not the other guy." it's pretty sad that they're COUNTING on the other guy to be viewed as so awful that folks will vote against him, not for their candidate.

we gotta do better.

They certainly did gloss over (complete avoidance) of JfK's record as a Congressman! Yet, they had some blurbs on his public service as a prosecutor....give me a break! Hopefully people will see thru this and vote for GWB, the best of the two choices in this horse race!

Like john kerry and john edwards said: "PLANS, we doon need no stinkin PLANS"

But the truth be told, even if kerry was to come up with a plan he would never get to implement it, you have to President to do that and kerry will never be elected.
