not just interesting, but prophetic.

"Editor's Note: This afternoon, Pakistan's interior minister, Faisal Saleh Hayyat, announced that Pakistani forces had captured Ahmed Khalfan Ghailani, a Tanzanian Al Qaeda operative wanted in connection with the 1998 bombings of U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania. The timing of this announcement should be of particular interest to readers of The New Republic. Earlier this month, John B. Judis, Spencer Ackerman, and Massoud Ansari broke the story of how the Bush administration was pressuring Pakistani officials to apprehend high-value targets (HVTs) in time for the November elections--and in particular, to coincide with the Democratic National Convention. Although the capture took place in central Pakistan 'a few days back,' the announcement came just hours before John Kerry will give his acceptance speech in Boston."

There is not going to be a non-controversial time to capture Bin Laden. The sooner the better. Or maybe we have him already, but won't announce it until George makes his acceptance speech. I just love conspiracies.

I think they're holding him prisoner in a black helicopter.

You've got it all wrong....they've got him at Area 51. He was born there after his parents crashed their UFO in the desert. He's been used as a scapegoat by the US Government...it's all the tail wagging the dog! Or maybe Armstrong brought him back from the moon...wait, we never landed on the moon!

Is there even a REAL Bin Laden?

Maybe he's a character the Bush administration made up. Maybe they have a way they went back and changed history to make us all think there was a Bin Laden all along.

No, come to think of it, if they had this power I'm sure they'd have used it already to make people like RICKAMAVEN happier.

"Although the capture took place in central Pakistan 'a few days back,' the announcement came just hours before John Kerry will give his acceptance speech in Boston."

And yet, ALL the major networks still showed Kerry's speech, with nary a word about the terrorist capture.
Conspiracy? You bet. But not from the right as the author suggests.

conspiracy theories are fun! :D

the only way i can see GWB *not* getting accused of using OBL's capture for political reasons is if the capture's announced AFTER the election (assuming GWB wins, that is).

the thing i wonder about is this: given human nature, would it be possible to capture the west's most wanted and hated criminal and for that info to NOT leak out?

i sincerely doubt that OBL will go quite as quietly as saddam did. i foresee either a) a heckofalot of bloodshed or b) one extremely impressive "snatch and grab" from special forces to extract him from his mountain (assumed) hide-out in (again assumed) pakistan.

how that could possibly be kept hush-hush globally, i don't know. the military can keep a secret, though i can def. see a few gung-ho warriors writing letters home with "keep an eye on the news. big stuff announced soon. can't say more!" if the area's inhabited by people, those natives/locals are going to talk -- what do they care?
