We had a fight night on the ship this evening. 4 bouts of boxing. We call it "smokers". I was in fight number 3. Heavyweight match against a guy who was about 4 inches taller and 30 pounds heavier. I got whooped!! It was pretty damn fun though!

I have never boxed before in my life, but it looked pretty easy... NOT! I was wore out after the first round and he had so much reach on me, I couldn't get inside. I'd do it again, but not against a guy THAT big!!

Very humbling experience.

My cousin got cornered by a Samoan on fight night back when he was in the Army. He's around 6'2", maybe 230 lbs. and has always been in shape.

He didn't want to fight that guy again, either.

Shawn, it takes grandes coconuts to go four rounds the first time around! The arms feel like heavy weights after a couple of minutes don't they?

Next time introduce the guy to Mr. Elbow and then to Cousin Head--it worked for me. LOL

Way to go buddy!

Sorry to disappoint Blood, but I didn't make it 4 rounds. We only fought 3, 2 minute rounds with 1 minute in between.

My arms never really got tired, it was my wind. Getting hit is not conducive to normal breathing...

Having headgear on was a plus. It never really "hurt", per se. Just the pride. ;-)

You're a Tough Man either way in my book.

BTW, don't let the political debates on these boards get you down. We're with you guys all the way!!!!

PS: I developed my wind as a youngster by having my dad chase me with the belt. LOL

Never boxed myself but used to enjoy watching my 2 younger bros. They used to box once a year in the Guns n Hoses charity fights.

One fought as a cop the other for the fire fighters. Great event for a great cause. anywhere from 2000 - 10000 people in attendance. They had a little advantage since they are both Tae Kwon Do blackbelts.

Give em hell Shawn.

That's cool. We had to box in the academy (CHP)...(one of those things to get people who've never been hit a dose of reality).

We were all in top shape and after 3 minutes my arms felt like jello. Major work out.

Overheard in a crowd gawking at a lovely lady:
"I don't know if she can fight, but I'd love to see her box tonight"

I still chuckle at that one...

Whenever in a fight such as this, the best advice is to duck and feign, throw a few jabs and let your opponent get tired, then ya go getum,LOL. BTW Macs,WTG. It takes some cajones to do that. X

When I was in the Navy I fought in a couple of smokers and they were a blast. I retired 3 an O.

I kind of had an unfair advantage though in that I'm a south paw is all I had to do was right jab right jab.... and win on points.
