Is it ok to fill your humidor to the brim? If its packed full of cigars will the ones on the bottom get proper humidification? Do I need to periodically rotate that bottoms to the top and vice versa. I don't have to crush any cigars to get the top closed but there are a lot in there.

Although rotation is not necessary, it is a good idea. Especially if you are "filled to the brim". Just remember to keep an occasional eye on your hygrometer. Try to avoid the "too wet or too dry" situations.(70/70 is the target. 65-72 is an acceptable range.) Let your humidor settle in and occassional rotate your cigars if you have the time. Yet, like "calavara" sez:
Don't worry about it.

I don't know but if the cigars are too close to a florist foam type humidifier the may have a tendency to mold on you. Some of mine did and these were the ones directly under the humidifier.Although it was one of the cheap humidifiers.I haven't had any problems since I quit filling mine so full.

Problem I'm having is with storage, too. About 4 months ago my significant other allowed me to purchase an Aristocrat humidor (from Bob Staebell) after much complaining that the spare room had "too many damn coolers of cigars" in it. I promised her that once I got the Aristocrat, I'd be totally content and would not need another humidor.... oh yeah, and that I would get rid of all the coolers. Well..... here's my problem... Its just about full now and I still need more cigars!!!!! I tried talking rationally with her about allowing me to purchase a small humidor ..you know...just to hold the extra single cigars I have, but no dice! She's holding me firm to our agreement! So now, I'm forced to constantly adjust and rotate my stock like some sort of weird puzzle every time I get another box of 'gars ....just to make 'em fit! Its pretty packed in there, but its holding a steady 67 to 68RH at about 70 degrees.
Should I wory about overload, or as long as the numbers are OK, should I just keep adding more in there?? When is "too many"???

That was mighty generous of her to "allow" you to buy a piece of equipment, knowing full well what its' deficiencies were. ie... max storage capacity.

Yer gonna have to regroup here. Barter with her. Like when she needs something frivilous. Say... food.

Big Tony, smoke more, like 10 to 12 a day and then you wont have storage problems, of course you may be extremely jittery from too much nico in you system, but hey its all fo the love of the game.

Big Tony, Do you still have the coolerdors? Are you looking to sell one? That would help with my overflow problem and your problem of your wife wanting you to get rid of the coolers. Plus then you can claim that you sold some of your coolerdors and put the money towards a new humi.

Sorry plabonte....I gave my old cooladors away when I got my Aristocrat(it was part of our "agreemnt"). I have started to smoke more cgars lately in order to free up some space. As for the Closetdor suggestion.... well, lets just say that when we move into a bigger house --the big closet off the den will be MINE! There may be a light in my future..... I saw her drooling over a red leather purse in the latest Coach Leather catalog..........maybe she'll see things MY way if she gets the green light on red purse... Hmmmmmmmm............

BIG TONY: your significant other allowed you to purchase another humidor? your joking. where is it written that one partner can decide what another partner can have. you are not talking about a $30,000 car of a $200,00. house. you are talking about a $100. humidor and some $5.00 or less cigars. i would no more think to tell toby that 300 beanies is enough than whe would to ask me why i have so many ciars.

jjohnson28: Use Propylene Glycol/distilled water in a 50-50 mix with your florist foam humidfiers. The Glycol will regulate your humidity and prevent mold growth as a bonus.

snowwolf777, I do use PG and distilled in 50/50, as a matter of fact I still have about 1/2 a gallon left of PG.Don't know why they molded the humi was actually dead on 70% and it was only the 4-5 cigars directly under the humidifier. So I figure they were just to close.Don't know so I just store a few less smokes in each of my 4 humidors.H*ll could have been a fluke for all I know.Better safe than sorry? Any of you guys that want to know where you can buy a gallon of PG on-line for $10.70+shipping email me at [email protected]

Rickamaven... I wish I could say that my humi was only $100 but it was about $1200. You've got to understand, I've wanted a cabinet humi for some time, and my girl was really giving me the buisnes about the 3 big coolers in the spare room. You have to also understand that my girl just doesn't understand that I NEED more cigars! (she calls me obsessive.....I think she may be right... but as long as I don't overspend, I'm going to keep buying!)My girl's a wine "junkie" and there's several times I have to tell her NO about buying more wine. I think we keep each other "in check" so to speak.

.....and $1200 for a humidor was a very big purchase for me. But, alas its almost full, and she does not want me to buy (and I quote)"any other humidor and no more damn ugly coolers"

big tony: my apologies, you do have a meeting of the minds. $1200. i once bought a new car for that much. if my memory serves me it was an autin american, front wheel drive 2 dr sedan. that was in the late 60's or early 70's. my 55 mgtf was about the same price, but that was back before your folks were born.
