cigarsmokin, check out the newest issue of "Bird Talk" magazine. I got it today. All about Amazons. I have a Double Yellow Headed (I'll find the picture and top it) as a pet along with a Quaker and Timneh Grey. My wife and I breed Quakers, Half Moon Conures, Senegals, and Myers.
All the Amazons I've ever known are "individuals". There are some general behavoir patterns but no set rules from bird to bird. The Yellow Head can be very loud, so if you're in an apartment,......I can hear mine plainly yelling at me when I'm at the mail box. They speak very well and love to sing. They go through a period when they become sexually mature, (anywhere from 4 to 7 yrs) that can be very aggresive. They have fantastic body language and an oder they can give off, so their mooods are pretty easy to predict. They aren't known for being cuddley but some are.
All in all they are wonderful birds. One word of warning, If you are a first time bird owner, an Amazon may not be for you unless you've been around some birds and know what you're about to experience. It's a life time commitment.
