I think this article really hits the nail on the head. I think we see it big time on this forum. It wasn't this way even just 6 months ago.

In times past the two political parties were unevenly matched, in both size and strength. The minority party knew it was the minority party and that it could not hope to win and so worked within the system to achieve some of its goals.

The discussion has turned so nasty today because both sides are about equal in size and strength. Each side really believes it can win, especially when winning means tipping the balance a few percentage points in one direction or the other.

Its like a pendulum swinging. There have been political shifts in our country before, just as there have been ecnonomic ones, and there will be others in the future.

For now, try to be calm. Change is inevitable. As the Bible says, "this, too, shall pass."

Very good thoughts! With out bringing up any political issues themselves, I WOULD like to explain why I tend to post so heavily on political issues. I've noticed a trend in recent decades that one side will advocat a policy and be shot down, over and over. The opposition get tired of "beating a dead horse, and begins to ignore the attacks. The undecided (there are ALWAYS those who haven't made up their minds or are easily swayed) see the lack of respons, and feel that the winds are blowing in a new direction, and soon, that "few percentage points" has shifted and the losing side has the upper hand, often eroding our fundamental rights under the Constitution! So if I get to seeming wearisome, I apologize, but I feel I MUST represtent my viewponit, or those who represent my veiwpoint will be replaced by those totally opposed to it! I for one would Love to discuss what would be good features to build into a large humidor, and the pros and cons of discontinuing the embargo on Cuba. But if someone wants to discuss politics, I WILL make sure the the undecided know that there is another opinion!

Peace out!

That article made me think a little bit about history. Those who do not remember it, are doomed to repeat it.

Greek Empire (Alexander the great) - defeated
Roman Empire (Caesar) - defeated
British Empire (before we whooped 'em) - defeated
Russian Empire (cold war) - defeated

Are we next? Does our downfall come from within? Somebody said it on this, or another post... "This, too, shall pass".

If we don't pull our heads out of our collective a$$es and wipe the $hit out of our eyes... and realize that we are NOT indestructible... we, too, may end up defeated.

I am merely being realistic, not taking a defeatist attitude. Sometimes I am the loud angry man. I could learn a lesson about civil discourse myself. But none of this changes the fact that sometimes a good old fashioned a$$-whoopin' is necessary.
