Sep 1 is the opener for dove season and also for a resident Canada goose season in ND. Will be getting up at 4:00 to get a crack at some dawn geese. Then will be trying my hand with my new gun at some doves. ND is very generous, having a 15 dove limit. Should only take a hundred shells to get that 15 bird limit.

Then 9/11- grouse and partridge opener
9/25- resident duck and goose opener
10/9- pheasant opener

It's all good

Sept. 1st here in Illinois Also for Dove and Early Canada Goose..

I used to Dove and Squirrel hunt quite a bit.. but with the weather warmer later I cut back on the early hunting.. bout 7 yrs ago I got bit by a timber rattler.. made me sick as a dog.. only one fang penatrated my back calf but I was sick for a week from it... Nowadays hunting for me isn't until after a good hard frost and it stays cool.. LOL

Dove and Quail are fun and good eating... Good Luck on your Hunt!!!!

Hunt was a solid success. Ended up with a full limit (15) of Canada geese and a full limit (45) of doves. Unfortunately, we lost 7 doves so only brought home 38.

Recipe for dove:

Take a dove breast, wrap it in bacon and grill it until bacon is cooked. Great appetizer, and good for a meal, even thought it is very rich.

No, this was some farmland located by my uncle's house and some land actually owned by my uncle. Neither piece was posted, and they will let anyone that asks hunt there.

I have a german shorthair, and I use her to hunt ducks and pheasants. I had her with yesterday, and she found a couple of downed doves and retrieved a goose out of a slough, but in general she does not like dove hunting.
