If you like the story, you show read "Crow Killer" by thorp and bunker. Look for a used copy on Ebay.

If you want to read about a different era frontiersmen - pick up a copy of the book The Frontiersmen by Alan W. Eckert. Also used on ebay, out of print i think.

^Thanks for the tip!

One of my two favorite "action" movies- Utah is beautiful (other is the Wild Bunch- what a cast: w/William Holden, Ernest Borgnine, Warren Oates, Robert Ryan, Edmond O'Brien & Ben Johnson!).

Two other great "Indian" movies: The Black Robe and The Last of the Mohicans. These show everyone in a non- pc light, unlike Dances w/Wolves which had the "poor" Indians crapping marble.

MrT- Will look for the Crow Killer. Have read the Frontiersmen twice. Great book.

Blood- Love the Wild Bunch and the Last of the Mohicans. Will have to look for the Black Robe. Is it a newer or older movie?

I have the movie on tape. Its one of my favorates. My wife even likes it, and she doesn't like westerns at all.

JonR- good to see you!
Just don't sing "Daniel, my brother..."again. LOL

Eb, The Black Robe came out in 1991. It depicted Algonquin life and their interactions with the "black robes" (French Catholic missionaries) in the 17th century. It can be gruesome at times, yet awe-inspiring.

Another movie, that I thought depicted Indian life warts and all, was "A Man Called Horse" w/Richard Harris (& Dub Taylor). The story of an English aristocrat captured by the Sioux. His initiation alone is worth the price of the movie. WOW!

Loved Billy Jack, but if you watch it now, you see how poorly it was filmed! Great independent film, and great story line!

Bad Day at Black Rock is a great movie! It opens with the train arriving in Black Rock and it really is well done! Almost classifies as Film Noir, also in same vain is Red Rock West, starring Nicholas Cage, JT Walsh, Laura Flynn Boyle and Dennis Hopper! Another great get even flick!

Classics all. Used to read a lot of Louis L'amour, too. For newer films, I like Dances With Wolves and Silverado.

"You know what I'm gonna do then, just for the Hell of it? I'm going to take this right foot of mine, and I'm gonna whop you on that side of your face, and you know what? There's not a damned thing you're gonna be able to do about it."

"Oh, really?"

"Really."
