Well it happened and to soon for me. It's kind of sad the Hummers are gone. A couple of nights ago it got a little chilly maybe 50 or less and the next day no more hummingbirds. We have a feeder in the flower garden out off our front porch. The activity throughout the summer is non-stop. We have birds fighting to protect the feeder. Air combat in your front yard. I cleaned and refilled the feeder and no birds for a few days. I will leave the feeder up for a while just in case there are any migrating birds.

I am sorry to say Summer is over and here comes fall.

i don't know where you live. i'm in whittier, calif and normally i have 8 feeders each holding a quart and i have to refill every 2 or 3 days. usually i can count over 30 birds at dusk, in a feeding frenzy before torpor. this year i was a flyby. a bird here and there but nothing as normal. even the blue jays that usually hang around were no shows.

i wonder what happened this year.

Stick and Rick (sorta poetic)

I live in Costa Mesa, CA and I still have multitudes of the little guys, with 4 feeders in back yard and one in front! Have had Allens, Annas, Costas,Blackchins,Rufous, and Calliopes among the visitors to the feeders this year so far! I sit out back and watch them come and go and yap at each other over feeder privildges!

I probably should not have sounded so bold with my statement, and now they will probably go away! Most of my birds are Annas!

It is over a 100 degrees today in parts of Southern California and the hummers are almost flying into each other in my backyard today! There must be 10 to 15 of them out there at any one time! Cannot wait till Dusk, I will light up a CAO Brazila GOL and watch them hit the feeders!

Rick I live in the northeast. In the state of Mass. I have one feeder out front and one out back. I clean and refill the feeder every two days when it's hot and every few when it's a little cooler. I use four parts water to one part sugar. I have found that this works better than any pre-mix stuff. What attracts the hummers in my opinion is the flower garden. My wife planted flowers that attract the birds. They like red and blues. I have sat on our porch and watched these birds go to every single bloom in the garden before they even look at the feeder. It is a really cool thing to watch. I also have two feeders filled with thistle seed just to feed the finches. I am a big fan of the yellow birds. Gold Finches. I found this site when I was surfing the web.
This might help you to find out why they don't go to you feeders. Check it out.

Hummer news from Cincinnati: Watched a couple of juvenile ruby throats dipping into our two feeders off the back deck this morning over coffee. A tiddly bit nipply out there this a.m. but a beautiful day.
