Anyone have a satellite radio? What's your thoughts? As I was experiencing the frustration of trying to listen to the race in my car today on the radio, I began to think about getting a satellite radio. . . . . however, I am looking at the channel listings for XM & Sirius, and there appears to be a problem: Two main considerations for me would be live NFL games, and live Nascar races. . . . . Can I get both with one service? Looks like XM has Nascar, and Sirius has NFL. . . . I don't think I'd seriously consider paying for the service if I can't get both sports. . . .

. . . any info on this?

Yeah I had one of those, but I had to get rid of it. Seems all mine could reach was planet Mavenic and all the inhabaters were named Mavens and the only thing that was on, was a news station. Well the last news I heard was a Rick Maven was trying to overthrow a king called GW Maven and Rick Maven was caught and sentenced to life on a planet (I forget the planets name) something to do with 3rd planet from a sun or something. Well anyway their last reports were Rick Maven was trying to overthrow a President on that planet. So you can understand why I trashed that radio.

I have XM and I like it.
I rather hear the Nascar races than football games.
I have the roady wich allows me to hook it up to my Harley for long trips
The cross country station has progressive country musice with lyrics like "Its hard to kiss the lips at night , that chew your ass out all day long"

One problem is that in some areas you get fade out.. This may be because the roady only has a satelite antenna while the sky fi radio has a satelite and "terestrial" antenna.
but even still It has better programming than am/fm and a lot of dedicated channels like Franks Place (sinatra and other standards"
and Hanks place (all old country)
Jazz only stations
'40 50 60 70 80 and 90s only channels
Its a break from the repetitive stuff on radio no matter what you listen to

Don't forget that it's also very clear. My dad had it in his Avalanche, and it always impressed the heck outta me. I always liked it because it's commercial free and it's a very clear, very clean sound. If you spend a lot of time in your car, I'd say it's probably worth the money.

I say this, and I don't have it.

I have XM and really enjoy it. I couldn't find my last GM vehcile with a factory installation. Went to BestBuy and had an XM Commander installed.

I really like it, music, news and talk.

Apparently, you can't have your cake and eat it too...bummer...

My hubby has Sirius and LOVES it...satellite radio, TiVo, a few cigars now and then, and me are what seems to work for him...

He's not into NFL or NASCAR, so I can't tell you about those specifically, but if you listen to music at all I think that satellite radio is a must.

I'd certainly consider getting the service with the sport that you enjoy LISTENING to more and VIEWING the other at home.

Or tape 'em both and fugetabouit...

Once you go satellite and/or TiVo, you'll never go back, at all costs! I dare you! I even have Sirius in my dune buggy...

I've had XM for over 2 years now and never listen to regular radio. I have not had any "fade out" problems with the Delphi unit (the regular...not the Roady) unless signal to the south is blocked (tall buildings). Would not be good in downtown traffic in a large city probably. Also bought the boom box and can sit with it on the porch while smoking cigars... peaceful.

Have not bought the stereo adapter but that is probably next along with the PC adapter for playing thru my PC at work (holding off until I move offices in a couple of months).

I like the dedicated stations mentioned earlier and my only complaint is that they took off one of my favorite channels "On The Rocks" a month ago. They could beef up their jazz and classic rock selections a little bit. Sports and news are great.

great questions. I too am in the market for sat radio. I have looked and almost bought a GREAT XM radio unit at a silent auction on sat for a steal! but decided i wanted the Sirius one instead for the NFL GAME.

I went sat tv for a while too and found the same issues. I had Dish network but Direct TV had NFL PAckage only and could not get my NFL games. So i made a bad choice and returned to cable (yes it can be done. sat tv sucked for me when it rained or snowed here - i would lose programming often in weather and was usually only when i wanted to watch tv). With those NFL issues with tv i want to make the right decision on the radio deal so I think i will go Sirius for NFL

thanks for the info gang!

side note: I agree with the tivo deal. Once you have it you can never go back to wathcing tv with commercials the old way. Just like high speed internet and dial up.
