The feds already make more money on tobacco sales than anyone else in the business does. I sometimes wish the old mafia ran the world. They were never this greedy.

Just wait and see what happens if we have socialized medicine. You really think the government is going to pay for lung cancer treatment for the guy who smokes three packs a day? Or how bout the guy who drinks a bottle of Jim Beam a day or the girl who eats six happy meals a day?

I see a ban on tobacco coming about 5-8 years after socialized medicine and that will be just the beginning…

Sylance, their not going to Ban the biggest Sin Tax in the Country.. socialized medicine may be one thing.. but just look at what's going on with the Medicine industries today... prescription drugs... what size market is this?? and who are the silent shareholders?? count on your fingers how many people just in your immediate family are taking a medication one type or another?

Okay, maybe not banned but we will see even higher taxes. Everything that is 'bad' for you will be taxed so that we 'free' Americans will only live a 'healthy' lifestyle and thus... socialized medicine will be a success.

Think of this as a "backdoor" tax. If the taxes are say 20% in your state, and the State and/or Federal government sues the tobacco companies, and wins, the settlement will be rolled into the price of the product. If it takes a 20% hike to cover the settlement, now you have a 40% tax (effectively) that they didn't even have to go through the Legislature with, and didn't have to use that nasty old 'T' word!
