"The President is merely the most important among a large number of public servants. He should be supported or opposed exactly to the degree which is warranted by his good conduct or bad conduct, his efficiency or inefficiency in rendering loyal, able, and disinterested service to the nation as a whole. Therefore it is absolutely necessary that there should be full liberty to tell the truth about his acts, and this means that it is exactly as necessary to blame him when he does wrong as to praise him when he does right. Any other attitude in an American citizen is both base and servile. To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public. Nothing but the truth should be spoken about him or any one else. But it is even more important to tell the truth, pleasant or unpleasant, about him than about any one else. "

Yo AVB:

Just think how lucky you are, you will have four more years to praise President George W. Bush.

There's no reason to attack this thread, this is entirely true. However, where it gets gray is when the truth of the attacks on the President. What is criticism and what are lies…

What sylance said,

And who's to decide for me if I should praise or fault the president for his decisions? You,(not you personaly AVB)the media, my boss? Each person decides how they feel about the president and how he is doing the job. I agree with Bush on most issues but not all. I agree with Kerry on some issues but not all.

On a side note: where did the idea that if you don't support the president then you are branded as "unpatriotic" by the administration come from? Did I miss a new law or decree that was enacted?

Did one of the "cabinet" members say something? or is this all being taken out of context when somebody had a rebuttal against an opposing view? I don't remember anything "official" but the Liberals (for lack of a better description)have been saying this for a few months.
