Let me start by saying I am tooting the horn of my kids and our school. If no interest to you move on.

I was educated in the parochial school system and when I decided to send my kids to public school my family was apalled. Now that they see the results I hear far less from them.

I live in a small town with a pop under 1000. I can see the school from the NE corner of my yard. Our school is a LITE(leaders in technology education) school. We train teachers from all over the state in 'how we do things'.

The other day while out driving my 4 year old asks why the pines have needles while the leaves fall off. I asked my kids if what they knew and if they could tell me what the general class of trees was called. My 3rd grade pipes up that pines are coniferous and keep needles year round. I asked what leaf bearing were called and he answered desiduous. I was surprised.

Report cards came home last week. My 2nd grade daughter gets 3 letter grades. 1 A and 2 A+s - to get an A+ you must earn 100%. She reads at a 4th grade level. My 3rd grade son brings home 6 As and reads at a 6th grade level. They start reading in K.

Needless to say I am very proud of my kids and our eductional system in the Triad district of IL.

Bass, I initially ignored this thread thinking it was a reference to an old alma mater (ole P.U., or something like that).

Glad I checked it out. There IS hope for our youth!

Not to downplay your school system, but based on your threads/posts, I would bet that your kids would have been just as well off if you & your wife had home- schooled.

Tony... SWEET! I went to public school in Rhode Island. New England school systems are (were) very stringent with their curriculum and a D was NOT a passing grade. If you didn't maintain at least a C average, you did that grade again. Period.

Here in CA it is a bit different. Buncha liberal whackos that think if you keep a kid back it hurts his self esteem...

Anyway, my kid is in all AP classes and getting straight A's

Congrats Tony!!

I think public schools are getting better. Both of my kids are doing great.

Gotta love it when your kids surprise you with what they know about the world.
