JonR... the problem is that it is not thier great, great, great... whatever... It is their brother or son, or father, that has been killed. Therefore, the revenge motive is very strong in the current generation. Still not a logical solution, but, more understandable nevertheless.

Oh really, Moreno? You think that the Iranians, Syrians, Lybians, etc. also want to kill Israelis for revenge? How many of them have been killed by Israelis (without deserving it)?

I think that it is a matter of a demonic, irrational, blind HATRED for the Jew.
And yes, per JonR, it goes back to the time of Christ.

If one can somehow take a neutral view, the friction between Israel and its neighbors is rather understandable and one can, to some extent, sympathize with the viewpoint of each side ...

Which is to say, by any standard, it is an extraordinarily difficult problem for which there well may be no solution ...

I think SteveS is right, there is no solution.

Perhaps with Arafat gone, there is an opportunity more so than when he remained.

I don't think you have to look that far into the past to understand the view of Israelis. In light of the Holocaust, the settlers of Israel have a justified paranoia.

For Americans, Israel has been a loyal ally and deserves the same.

There are two sides, but on this topic, I fly the Star of David.

blood... You are right, that it is a goal for many fundamentalist moslems to eliminate the Jewish state. I was just trying to point out that the circle of revenge motivation, at least in the palestinian case, is still in this generation. (under my breath... "sheesh, I knew I was going to get jumped for that comment").

I believe that it was in 1974 that the Jordanian Palestinians fought King Hussein & his Hashemite kingdom for a large tract of land which was rightfully Palestinian but now a part of Jordan. They lost over 10,000 people in that rebellion alone.

In the last 40 years, the arabs have collectively killed many more muslims AND Palestinians than the Israelis could ever dream of doing.

Then, why is the "revenge" directed only directed at the Jews...? Because, it is built upon a pathological hatred that is inbred from infancy, generation after generation. IMHO, this is not just a phenomenum resulting from recent killings. It appears to be a cultural/religious animosity which seeks to vanquish all infidels--the Jew then the Christian. Finally, they will devour each other.
