$hit happens.
Prior to this Iraqis were rigging wounded and dead bodies with explosives. I think they should make the other Iraqis move their wounded and dead.

Yo Hog:

I agree with you, reporters should not be imbedded with our troops during war operations. All the reporters are looking for are a fast advancement in their field or a pulitzer prize.

I believe the Marine acted properely in killing the insurgent, ( my belief is insurgents should not be taken prisoner but should be eliminated ASAP) he protected hisself and his fellow Marines. I think he should be given a medal and sent home for a months R+R.

Penalizing folks for shooting people in a war makes about as much sense as issuing speeding tickets at an auto race.

Real damn easy to sit in a armchair at home and say what someone should have done when they are the one getting shot at.

Let's see, take a prisoner, who bleeding hearts will cry over and call us savages because we always mistreat prisoners, or...shoot him for trying to conceal the fact that he's actually alive and would shoot me if given the chance again...

FIRE IN THE HOLE !!!!!

I think that before you can be an embedded reporter you must first complete the same basic training as the group your with. Work his ass for 12 weeks then give him a weapon and place him in an intense fire fight and see if he doesn't make sure the enemy doesn't get up again.

From the article...

"The Third Geneva Convention, the section of the 1949 treaty that applies to prisoners of war, says "persons taking no active part in the hostilities, including members of armed forces who have laid down their arms and those placed hors de combat (out of combat) by sickness, wounds, detention, or any other cause, shall in all circumstances be treated humanely."

He was treated humanely, he was put out of his misery.

RE: The Geneva Conventions

I pose a question. If you are a boxer, you fight by the rules of the governing body of the boxing sport. If you (as a boxer) get involved in a street-fight outside of any sanctioned match, attacked by a hoodlum, who knows or respects no rules, do you consider yourself bound by the rules of boxing???

The insurgents never signed the Geneva Conventions, they seem to have no regards for the conventions as they have beheaded several of THEIR prisoners. They have shown no regard for holy sites, cemetaries, schools, hospitals, or civiaian casualties. Should we expect our troops to fight with one hand tied behind their backs? I find the limitations on engaging insurgents holed up in a mosque reminiscent of the troops in Vietnam not being allowed to fire on VC moving through the Michelin rubber plantation because the US government had to reimburse Michelin for any rubber trees damaged!

I was not there. I know there was more to it than the 30 seconds shown on T.V.
God bless our troops.

Hey check this out I have a good friend who is a Marine, he was on the first push and has been back for about a year. His first baby was born on November 10, 2004. What would be the chance of that.

These things happen in war. The stresses of war on the mind and body must be taken into account. Sometimes I think these people view the war as a game, and they are the referees. It's simply not true. Give this guy a pat on the back, buy him a beer and a cigar, and wish him a safe tour.

One of the guys here at the base I am now at shot and killed a suspect stealing a motorcycle and wounded his accomplice.

One of the lookouts on a nearby ship saw 2 guys that appeared to be trying to steal a motorcycle... they called security (base military police) and sure enough, that's what they were doing.

The patrolman called to the guys to halt (they were already on the bike and had it going) then they tried to run him down with the bike so he shot the driver in the chest twice and the passenger in the arm once.

FBI investigated and called it a justified shooting.

He did what he was trained to do. Period. Good on him.

Insurgents are not soldiers. They are people running around with weapons, uncontrolled by anyone, doing whatever they want, to anyone, for their own benefit.

I think the good Sergeant Graham had the right sentiment.

I believe this kind of report puts soldiers lives in danger.....if a soldier has to worry about public scrutiny during battle, then they compromise their safety and their objectives.

I have no military experience, but I have to believe the old saying, war is Hell.......these things happen.

Oh.....I agree with Russ.
