... it seems to be the only paid advertising on TV this weekend and today. Anyone else as sick of it all as I am?

I guess the economy isn't as bad as perceived.

Those people seem to have an endless supply of dough to throw at fundraising, commercials and various political events.

Here's an idea....turn the tv off.

Yep...hate it. Most of it borders on outright slander. It's all lies and crap from both parties and it all panders to the lowest common denominator. I don't watch local programming and I have a Vonage number so at least I don't get the phone calls. That would REALLY piss me off.

Am thankful for DVRs.

The reason you see more political commercials is there are fewer small businesses still in business and with money to devote to advertising.

1000 days of Fascism, and many things would be significantly better.

Getting them to leave gracefully on Day 1001 might be a different story.

I find them entertaining and they give me insights on both candidates. The targeted candidate because there's usually at least a small grain of truth which has oftentime been embellished upon & meticulously/irritatingly shaped sort of like a pearl, and the perpetrator because the more outlandish and blatantly foolish the ad, usually the more desperate and more of a liar he/she is.

The ads I really hate are the ones where a candidate squanders the supporter's money by saying nothing other than he/she is the answer to our dreams. I think that all ads (and campaigning) should be allowed for a LIMITED time (say 1 month) and the media should post their voting records and/or resumes. The interested voter can decide from there.

Btw I usually watch commercial free cable fare so I rarely see them.

I am. The half-dozen or so answering machine political messages every day are particularly annoying.

On a related note, is it me or have most political ads morphed over the past several years from the traditional campaign promise BS into tactless mud slinging?
If you believed all the political slander, then NONE of the candidates are worth voting for. In fact a sizable percentage should be in prison, if you believed their opponents.

Yeah I always thought that. Rather than mudslinging and lies and embellishment, I wish politicians would be required to post those things... Voting records and resumes. I'd also like to see a rundown of their stances on common issues and actual plans they would fight for.

When I hear "I would be fiscally responsible" I just think.. well what is your plan?

And their bank statements, both domestic and offshore.
Also I think campaign promises should be treated like a job application, because that's what it is. We taxpaying peons can't lie on a job application, and neither should the people we hire (elect) to do the job of running the federal, state, and local governments.
