All the above. My cousin is Bill Buckner ( O.K. be nice) my nephew is playing double A for the Yankees. He's doing good but you really have to have the talent these days so I see way they do it but it should not be toleratd!

careful what you say about Bill. He's my family and was a awesome baseball player. I saw Steven king the writer in a interview what the 3 most memorable moments in his life where and the first 2 where the normal, birth of kid, but #3 was when the ball went through Bill Buckner's legs. I was watching Chicago hope and during a heart transplant the guy dropped the heart and someone said hey you pulled a Buckner. I saw my aunt the next week and she was lying in bed watching and just screamed. To bad that's what people remember.

Re: punishment for steroid users

First, I think you have to "catch them in the act"....if they test positive, bust them severely...maybe fine and suspension. If it happens again...start talking ban from the league, etc.

As for someone who admits after the fact....I'm ok with an asterisk saying that the player admitted yada yada yada witha quote from a documented admission whether it be a court record or public statement.

Re: Buckner...

It is too bad what people remember...he was a great player. And his miscue was a mistake in a game...not like a Pete Rose who calculated his misgivings off the field.

I'm not a Sox fan nor a baseball fan for that matter, so I didn't suffer from Buckner's error. However, great player or not and family or not...there's no way to erase the hugeness of the error in a clutch situation that had such huge ramifications....I'm just glad he wasn't a soccer player from another country.

As you and I discussed at Marlas Herf, I think Bill Buckner has suffered unduly by the Red Sox loyals and their inability (until this year) to win the World Series, now that they have won, maybe they will remember him for the hitter and ballplayer he was! I hope so!

As far as Bonds, Barry Bonds goes, he should have to endure all of the above, but biggest thing would be asterisk (for life) placed by his records are until such time as we have real machines (robots) playing sports! He is a joke to the great homerun hitters and should be looked at as such! "I did not know......." cut me a break, sounds like the Germans during and after World War II about the concentration camps!

Re: Buckner

You don't last 22 years in the majors by not being good.
His 3rd year with the Dodgers was his first full season, where he batted .319 in the majors. For a rookie, that was extremely good.

Here is a guy who's overall (lifetime) fielding percentage was .991 and is remembered for one error.
If folks realized that is 146 total errors lifetime, they would realize what an amazing feat that is.

It is a shame that he is remembered for the one play and not his total achievements.

Billy, threadjack or not,
My point was that I have family in the game. My nephew is trying to make it without the use of drugs and it's not a fair playing field if drugs are involved. If you don't like it don't respond! too bad that "My most important family member is my coffee cup." take the poll and move on!

Oops,
I forgot to take the poll.
I say all of the above.
Normally, I would leave out the eligibility to the Hall of Fame, but because of how it enhances their game, I think that they should lose their eligibility.
There have been folks who lost their eligibility for less things.

I will remember myself next time to take the poll and not comment in the future.

Dan...whoa....

I was serious...it is way cool that you are family with Buckner...and I mentioned my relationship with my coffee cup to illustrate why my experience with family would lead me to view your kinship with Buckner as cool.

We ok?

I would say maybe a fine but more none of the above. What about this part of the news.
"Even if the substances Bonds took were steroids, Rains said they were not banned by baseball at the time and the slugger believed they were natural. Bonds also maintains the substances did nothing to aid his rise as one of the game's greatest home run hitters, Bonds' attorney, Michael Rains said."Barry was tested several times this year and the results of those tests were negative," said Bonds' agent, Jeff Borris."

I disagree about multiple chances. Artificial talent, imo, is a first time max penalty in my book. What that penalty is, well, I'm glad I'm not on that comittee.
