I have a water well in my yard so I pull my own water for a couple cents a gallon. I'm sure city water is about the same. However, I don't have an oil well and refinery in my yard, so I have far fewer choices.
I used to hear the same comparisons when milk was actually more expensive than gas. Same deal - I don't need 30 gallons of milk a week to get to work and back.
Gas prices move with speculators and on what they see happening on the TV around the world. That, and plain old supply/demand. So much of it turning on how much of our own we drill and refine, which of course, we don't. Nothing like we used to, anyway, in relation to our current need.
And I still actually had to listen some dope in the cafeteria a couple weeks ago lecturing everyone on how "the Republicans are back in Congress and the gas prices have gone up." Really? You really, really believe that, don't you? You really think the first thing they did was have a secret meeting to "jack up the gas prices", don't you?
