What is the deal with the US calling up people who have served their time, are disabled or have retired?

Seems a little twisted to me, but I may not be hearing the entire story.

Let me refraze my earlier post... I would be gone in a heartbeat to serve my country once more ;0)

Rick, Bush didn't have squat to do with the regulations and stipulations in the military contracts... Matter fact his Ready Reserve commitment may be on the list also... along with John Kerry's LMAO!!!! wouldn't it be something to have the Senator from Mass called up to active duty?? would look good on a 2008 resume for canadacy LOL
he would be like the last guy in the article... they'd have to physically drag him out!!!!

Hog, election's over friend, ya'll won. But if historical fact means anything, it was Kerry who served on active duty I believe, shrubbie was the one (among many) who b*tched out.

Hog, I may be mistaken, but Bush's dad's high political position got W in the guard as a political favor. Former Texas lieutenant governor of Ben Barnes apologized for his role in getting W into the guard while other young men died in Vietnam. The take home point here is that Kerry served and Bush didn't, although both clearly had the opportunity too. Those are just the facts, draw your own conclusions. I can see ignoring the facts in the short term to win an election, all's fair in love and war, but now that the battle's won and over, no reason to remain in denial about a factual matter of common knowledge.

I don't see a single fact in your entire diatribe. Additionally, common knowledge often has nothing in common with fact.

And you can bet your a** the fortunate sons of today are laying comfortably out of harms way while others do the dirty work. Amazing the lengths some folks will go to to keep their heads safely lodged up their nether parts.

Spin it how it suits you friend. But the fact is that many received off the cuff deferments during Vietnam, shrub being one of the more notorious recipients. I personally am neither surprised nor disturbed by it, although it seems a little ironic how heroically he's hailed for b*tching out like that. I suppose it was Daddy Bush's call in any case, W's probably had no say in it.

CP I strongly think you are mistaken on all accounts including the recent one...

"And you can bet your a** the fortunate sons of today are laying comfortably out of harms way while others do the dirty work."

I wasn't a fortunate son as perceived (possibly), but I was considered a guard bum... I did my entire military career in the guard and deployed many times through my career to defend this nation as did Hundereds of thousands of other guard bums ;0) Had GWB been in a unit with Bombers (because these were the aircraft of choice and call up during the vietnam era.. he also would have been deployed during this time I am sure...

as far as a non com such as yourself considering for a second that "The Guard" as perceived is a less of the total force that makes up the US Military Policy.. I would suggest to you to do a little research on the role of the guard and reserve as a total force policy

you can find much of this information on the DOD websites available to non military personel... you can also find allot of information on:
www.fas.org

if you do a little background info on your (( Loser)) Kerry... you will find that his intentions were much like GWB you would perceive... he joined the Navy Reserves and thought he would not be deployable to anything other than shore duty in the States... boy he was as wrong about that as he was him becoming President in 2004 (this is where I inserted the ((Loser)) deffinition ;0)~~~ His Arse got deployed and was in a hostile combat area when he rubbed his little stones together to draw up the smoke and mirrors of (Aha, I need 3 Purple Hearts for a ticket out of this place!!!!) thus the self inflicted War Hero!!!!

Now he can toot his horn right on down to the March of Dimes and ring some more liberal bells and blow some whistles because he will never be seen as anything more then a Traitor to this Country and his fellow Countrymen!!!!!!!!

now with that all spit out on the platter I feel a bit better....

Get Your Facts on Guard and Reserve before you make statements as the above posts... they make you look like a total ass ;0)

You can spit and spin till the cows march in. Bush got a cushy spot in the guard due to his privaliged wealth status; a lot of people did in case you haven't heard. Kerry was wealthy too, but served on active duty and shrubbie didn't. Sorry bro, but facts are facts, like them or not. nuff said.
