Does any government employee have even half a brain? I got a property tax deficiency notice in the mail. I owe them a whole 40 cents. Of course it cost them 45 cents in postage, plus the cost of paper, envelope, ink and labor to mail me this notice. Is it a prerequisite that government employees be mindless automatons?

Actually, maybe we should be pissed at you for being a delinquent and having them waste our tax dollars to track you down and have you pay your full share.

Pay up deadbeat!

Actually, it is probably far cheaper to have that automated mailing process than it would be to have a live human review the records. They lost a nickel on you, but a nickel of a 30K a year employee's time is about 6 seconds.

Ask if you can pay it in monthly installments.

You could just pay them in coroded penies that have been damaged by acid or some other caustic chemical. Better yet, formally chalenge the tax bill and require strict proof. Give them a good run around! That will cost them dearly...

Stop shirking your responsibilities and pay up. So you'll have to skip smoking two cigars. What's the big deal?

No, unless you're vying for a management position.

I paid up yesterday in person with pennies. Don't want a tax sale for 40 cents, which I know they would be thrilled to do. BTW, the whole thing is due to their screw up. I wrote one check ending in 53 cents last Spring. I notice now that my checking account was only debited 13 cents, hence the 40 cent deficiency.

BTW, I bought George's 2011 dog license while I was there, so ain't I the model citizen?
