Who is Lars Tetens?

Lars Tetens is an artistic, eccentric, upstate New York skateboard punk who entered the cigar market in 1995 with a very non-traditional, different smelling, different looking cigar that took off in the cigar marketplace despite its extremely high price and lack of notoriety.
All Lars Tetens products are made in New York using exotic tobaccos from around the world, making his cigars the most prestigious American cigars manufactured.
Part of his non-traditionalism is inconstency guaranteed with continously changing size, shape and blend in his lines (especially his Evolving series).

Lars Tetens Posted by Jay on July 26, 2000 at 15:07:02: I hear so many people talk bad about these smokes so I would like to set the record straight. Either you can't afford them or your a beginner who can't yet appreciate a fine product. I love Griffins, Avo's, etc. but after smoking a "Shorty", nothing else will ever come close. So if you can't afford them, DO NOT smoke one because you will pay whatever it takes to smoke this fine smoke! The Tesshu Deluxe line is the one that my wallet feels now since I received one for my birthday. Since I discovered tetens.com, my credit card statement reminds me of this once a month. I just ordered from Tetens.com and I'm awaiting cigars from the Golf, Grass, Milhous, Musashi, Phat, Shirley Tetens, El Culo and the Red Crown line. I can't wait! XXXX also sells Tetens EXTREMELY cheap but the don't carry every line. Happy smokes, brother!

go back about 2 months on this board. These cigars took the floor for a lengthy rating squabble. The best rating I remeber, compared these cigars to the pink urinal blocks you find at you favorite lavratory.

To each his own; and may all be happy with their personal favorite! I however prefer a Cuban Siglo IV, or a RyJ either in vintage or regular line.

I haven't tried them yet ... just curious to hear the other side ... those who favor them. All I've ever heard in this group is negative, so I thought I would post some of the positive that I've come across ...

Haven't tried them either but I plan to to see what all the hype is with this line of cigars.

Lars smokes Tubos! (He's a Tube smoker and I hear he likes the young underaged ones?)

Show a little class squattro ... it would have been better for you if you hadn't shown everyone how immature you are ... too bad ... now everyone knows.

Lars is a strange brand indeed; similar to the ACID line which is relatively new. Most people seem to either love or hate these smokes. Rarely do you here an "in between" opinion. Personally I love them but not as an every day cigar. They're no better or worse than traditional cigars, just different. If you like them try AXIS cigars. Lar's brother in law makes them and they're more affordable, 3 or 4 bucks a stick.

Tried my first Lars this weekend in Tampa, and did not particularly enjoy it. I might use it as a cigar for those occasions when a "non-cigar" aroma is in order. But for me they would never warrant their own humidor, and would never find a spot next to the others in my existing 'dors.

The first time I encountered Tetens cigars was in the walk in humidor at my favorite store. He had only had them in there for a day or so and the aroma was alredy overpowering when I walked in. Naturally, I had to comment to the owner who assured me they were excellent smokes. On his advice I bought 3 different sizes (don't remember the names). I smoked one there at the shop. It wasn't the worst cigar I ever smoked but it definitely didn't rank up there with the best either. At the time I could only compare it to those trendy clove cigarettes that some people like. Over the next couple of days I smoked the remaining two cigars. And again, they didn't compare to a few of my favorites (montecristo, hemingways, RyJ). I guess I just like my cigars to taste like cigars. Apparently they didn't go over real well with the majority of the customers because they stopped selling them after the first batch sold out (which if memory serves me was a a couple of months). Then the humidor aroma was restored to its former glory.

For me, nothing will do but a Lars, especially the Evolvings and "Golf" line-up! Don't get me wrong, I really like my Davidoff's and Fuente's...but to turn someone elses head try a Tetens. Just keep them in a separate jar / humidor. Save them for the really special smokes.

Just a heads up for Lars smokers. Several Lars cigars have mysteriously changed lately. The Shorty is one of them. The wrapper is darker and halfway down the 'gar gets real harsh. I hope it's not permanent.
