I found out yesterday that I'm moving to San Francisco from Denver and wanted to know if anyone knows of some good cigar hangouts. I know about 850 Montgomery, so I'm hoping for some other places/info. Thanks, Chris

Sherlock's Haven half a block north of California St on Battery is pretty good, although a bit small ... among the more unique places you'll find anywhere, although it's not strictly a cigar hangout, is Ruby Skye on Mason Street, just a couple of doors north of Geary Blvd. ... it's a one of a kind nightclub with a terrific smokers lounge and a very good selection of cigars for sale.

I know that smoking is illegal in most public places in CA. The law was designed to protect employees from being forced to work in a smoky place. The way some cigar bars are getting around this is by not having employees. For example "850 Montgomery" has no employees, they have ten partial owners. Because of this loophole they can allow smoking inside since there are no employees to endanger. Also, I was interested in any places that had cigar freindly patios, or similar setups. Thanks SteveS!

I’ve lit up in every cigar store I’ve been to in SF and in all of them in the ‘burbs where I live as do all the other patrons and employees there. No trouble at a single one of them. (I work in the City, but live 35 miles away). There are a fair number of cigar-friendly places near where I live, several of which I like a great deal … if you’d like, I’ll send you an e-mail with some details.

Living in California is great some of the time, but when you want to smoke a cigar, ohmygod, there are places in each city, but hard to find! Example, in Costa Mesa, CA there is Harry and Hanks Goat Hill Tavern and in Irvine, Newport there is the Chanteclair. Both are completely different from each other! Charlie

I know what you guys mean as far as sticker shock, I'm getting ready to get a place out there that's half as nice and costs twice as much, but I can still rely on good old CB to be my cigar pusher!! I just got off the phone with my uncle who is sending me 500 cigars, I know some have been unattended for 2+ years so I'm interested to see what I can salvage!! He said they were all in the 10-15 range retail. I sure hope I can salvage 100 or so of them!! I'll let you guys know if there are some that I don't care for, but are in good condition, on the trading page...
