I think you are mistaken...
The snorleling is fantastic. The reef is 50 yds off the beach, less in some places. We've been down there several times and have never had surf issues.

I found Cozumel a bit run down, that's just me...

Yeah most of Mexico is "run down" by U.S. standards........Kinda makes it quaint and authentic......Only the tourist area's are 'Nice" by most American's standards.

When we were looking online before our last trip most websites listed playa as not snorkel able due to cloudy water, grass, and surf.

When we arrived on Playa the surf was 2-3 ft with cloudy water.

It may be good snorkeling, this is just my experience.

Cozumel is world renown for its water clarity and reef systems......Maybe i'm just used to that..

My wife and I are booking a trip here for August, so is the resort as nice as the website makes it look.
Also do you know if the la casa del habanos is still open that is nearby?

Thanks,

Stephen

Some advice for a cigar aficionado while in Playa, there are 2 establishments on the 5th Avenida Market called "Cigar Factory". The company that runs these is called Lauro's House Cigars. They are growing cuban-seed mexican tabacco and will roll you some fresh if you want. Try the torpedo its delicious.

As for the Casa del Habano, I don't know where it is on Playa, but the one on Cozumel is just a 30 minute ferry ride away, its on the second floor of the "Fat Tuesday" in the town square. Nice cigar bar/lounge area, decent selection, price is typical for LCDH but you know your getting the goods. And they will discount if your getting a good amount.

It is that nice...

The LCDH as of a year ago was closed. But,there is a cigar store that does sell legit smokes.I don't remember the name but it is tucked away on a side street in the market area but,you could always take a drive up to Cancun to the LCDH there..Also. I bought Havana club 7yr for $15 a bottle.

It's not $900 a night.

It's about $400 a night.
