I made this post because of something Rick said on the thread about Scott Peterson. Just because we were having a discussion about Scott Peterson he thought we didn't care that our troops and others were dying in Iraq, which is far from being true. As I said on that post and saying here - at least twice a day - morning and night I pray for our troops - not only in Iraq but in Afghanistan and wherever they may be for that matter. I am an American and very proud of it. I support our troops whether they are here in America or in Iraq or Afghanistan, or anywhere else in the world. Their safety is something I pray for in earnest. I don't like the thought of our troops dying, but sadly that is something that happens in wartime. I admire all the brave men and women who are willing to lay down their lives so I can have the freedoms that we so often take for granted. I admire their courage in the face of war, where they bravely try to help other countries become more free, because they know how much freedom means to them and what freedom will mean to the people who have never had the chance to experience it. I do care what goes on in our country and in the world. I just don't appreciate it being insinuated that I don't care just because I'm interested in something else. Laci Peterson and her unborn son Connor were brutally murdered by Scott Peterson, they weren't in a country where there was a war, Laci is believed to have been in bed sleeping when Scott killed her, she didn't know what was happening to her, all she wanted to do was be a mother - am I not allowed to feel sympathy for her and Connor? Am I not allowed to cry when I hear how her mother got on the stand in the penalty phase and told how the police had to tell her that Laci was found with no head and no arms or how she said that baby Connor is in the casket with Laci, but Laci can't hold him because she has no arms? I care about a lot of things, I cry about a lot of things that don't have anything to do with me, but I'm a caring and compassionate person, things like this affect me because I'm a human being. There are a lot of horrible things that happen not only in this country but the world every day and whenever I hear about these things it saddens me, sometimes it effects me more, but I always care and I pray. Just because we maybe discussing other things DOES NOT mean that we don't care about our troops or other things. And I am offended when people come off as self righteous and insinuate that I don't care about our troops because that is far from the truth. As Jesus said when a gang of people wanted to stone that woman...those without sin cast the first stone...and nobody could throw even a pebble......hmmmmmmm.

you have all my respect for your feelings about the peterson case. i did not mean to insinuate that you were fixed on that case to the exclusion of all other problems we face.

my point was that the "news media" finds a "hot story" and spends entirely too much time discussing it's every moment, especially the moments that haven't even happenned. "we hear that" "my sources tell me" "i looked at the faces of the jury and"

as a result, important news that affects the entire country is given less then adequate coverage.

i did in fact respond to the thread directly after i read your thread.

see Rick, I get all my info about the Peterson case from court tv which mainly concentrates on crime and criminals and the like, other than newsbreaks that tell of other stuff going on at 30 min after the hr and the news ticker at the bottom of their screen during the daytime hours. Court tv is just for stuff like the peterson case, the robert blake case, the michael jackson case, the court marshal of lynndie england etc etc etc. FOX, CNN, MSNBC, etc etc are news networks where they discuss all forms of news. but you are right the news media does get fixated on things, sometimes things that some of us don't feel are that important, but on the other hand, what might not be important to you, will be important to someone else. Just like if some horrific crime happens in Norfolk, VA it is going to affect me because that is where I live, but it isn't going to affect someone in Alaska or California. I just happen to be a crime buff and follow cases like the Scott Peterson case that is why I enjoy discussing it with other people who might find it interesting, etc. I usually don't discuss the war and stuff because I don't like politics, don't understand it for the most part, but because I don't discuss it often doesn't mean that I don't care. I have a relative over in Iraq - he's Army - in the thick of things for the most part, but I don't even have to know anyone to pray for our troops. I know you probably didn't mean to insinuate what I took you to be insinuating but it just rubbed me the wrong way.

Ask Clive and he will tell you how soft hearted I am - heck I'll cry at a sad song, sad video, sad movie, I'll hear a sad news story and cry, it's just the type of person I am.

As I end this post I am saying a prayer for all the troops wherever they may be and for their families as well and to all the fallen heroes and their families too. May God Bless them all.

kewlies :-) I like all of that stuff. I prefer true crime stuff though I do like CSI, though I don't watch it much anymore. I hadn't been watching tv much until I got Clive to hook up a tv in our bedroom before he left for 10 days for exercises. Alas today is saturday and that means zippo on tv that is why I'm haunting the boards lol. though I think I'm going to get some lunch and put in LOTR fellowship of the ring and may just have an LOTR fest - had a harry potter one the other night lol. lol @ me threadjacking my own thread oh well lol

COLD CASE FILES on A&E I love it.I guess I'm FFF also. Must be somthing in my blood growing up with cops. But yes the media does get out of hand seems to be all about ratings. In England you can't print or cover anything about a case till its over.

Liz-

Do yourself and buy TIVO! Best purchase I ever made. Purchased it for the wife last Christmas. When she opened it she said "Great a gift for you!", it is and 80 hour and it has 50 hours of CSI Miami, CSI New York, Cold Case, Cold Case Files, etc. The other 30 hours are Sponge Bob, Power Rangers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. So see it wasn't for me at all. Get Clive to get you that for Christmas, you won't regret it. Happy Holidays!
