that turned into an EPIC FAIL for my cigar purchases.

I know I've posted this pic before, but it's probably buried deep or gone with the new forum (perhaps Jackconrad can find it since he's good at digging up old threads). I took the pic 1/3/08...Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year to me. I thought I'd repost it after the "cigar spending" thread in the C&R forum where I warned some noobs to pace themselves, as I to was a noob and learned a hard lesson. After a couple years of heavy bidding/buying, this was the climax before the chit hit the fan and a reality check set in. There's another pic, taken the beginning of March of the same year, when I took delivery of an Opus sampler and a box each of PSD's and Bolivar RC's. No bids since all of this. I still buy a [single/double] stick here and there, but not often. I've missed out on a lot of new stuff and the high of winning a few bids. I still get bombarded with email specials from domestic shops and from abroad, and there's some good deals from time to time that can be hard to resist. I like to call it "window shopping." But resist I do...ok, I admit, I have done a box split (or two) since then on a small scale, but even that has dwindled off to nothing. After seeing pics go up of major scores and purchases, I must admit, I get jealous. They want to pull me back in. Pray At some point maybe I'll be able to jump back in the game, and also get back into the fun of bombing, etc, but it doesn't make [financial] sense right now (or any time in the near future as I gaze into my crystal ball).

I'm guilty of being a "collector" of cigars (as Tuck can attest), and I probably have most of the cigars in this pic 3 years later, as well as those not pictured (PSD, RC's, another box of GOF, etc). Maybe some day I'll find the time to smoke them in more prosperous times. I know the two RyJ in the red tubos are toast. I burned those not too long ago, actually. Maybe my thinking is backwards. Perhaps I should smoke them all now so I can feel rich. Dancing

Happy smoking.

I understand completely. Hopefully me seeing that pic will remind me not to get pulled back in, and just smoke all the stuff I have.

Nice cigar porn

Very nice picture, I have the temptation of doing these kinds of things when I see pics like this. I just know I can't afford it right now, sure one day but now I need to pace myself with smaller less expensive purchases. I will trade some mixed fillers I have for the ones left in your pic if you want......especially if you are feeling guilty.

That's a beautiful haul there Dave but, the way I think, I'm afraid there is something you are failing to consider: nobody has a guarantee that there will be a tomorrow. Nobody knows how short their time is on this planet - why risk it?

When and If prosperous times do come back, I'm thinking you'll be able to swing a few boxes of good smokes with ease.

Start smoking them now! And ENJOY THEM! A collection like that is going to taste far better even than they look. Especially given the extra aging they have gotten.

I gotta admit though - you have some heavy-duty will power.

You know, I doubt anyone here thinks what you do for the troops is anything other than a great thing. I also doubt that being a constant PIA about this is making anyone remember they have an obligation to do more through your project. Do you have any idea how many of us (like myself) do this on a personal level through people we know who are currently serving? Have you ever thought of that? Or the fact there are plenty of other donation projects that, I'm betting, many here are involved with?

By all means, keep up the good work by continuing to have this donation project. There is no question that the troops who benefit are very grateful. But you just sound like you are trying to aggrandize yourself by standing on this soap-box of yours constantly wagging your finger at those you are assuming don't appreciate our serving men and women as much as yourself.
