Actually I DID have to burn it as my uncle was "working" for someone who knew my gandparents that I'm pretty sure was responsible for the hippie lettuce. My other uncle and I had to have two conversations with him to let him know he was no longer welcome @their place and we would not have a third conversation.

Anyhow, the law in every state is pretty much the same. At the absolute minimum, I am just pointing out that: You took possession of 10 lbs. of it; transported it; walked with it; and then started a fire to burn it (presumably in a place where fires are permitted and, hopefully, not on Federal or State property). That's an incredible, unnecessary risk you took. If you were worried that your grandmother didn't know it was in her home or knew, but just wanted it out of there, why would you have personally taken exclusive possession and control of it?

Why not instead have just: put it out with the garbage mixed with something that rendered it useless (pesticide, dog crap, cleaning fluid(s), etc., etc.); put it down the garbage disposal; unwrapped or unbaged it and spread it out and buried it; flushed it it; or just told your uncle that unless it is was all gone by a certain date and time, you would call the cops and report it?

The concept of risk associated with intentionally throwing away weed upon discovering "possession" of it, in order to be legally compliant, cannot in my mind, be even close to the risk you took.
