Being the worlds police and "fighting" the worlds wars the way of the lefties involves a larger force. That is unfortunately what we have right now. It is also the reason we are as bloated right now. Because of a lefty way of prosecuting a war. This giant military is not a result of the righties. Generals like lean, fast, forces that get in and get out. No the "pretty" war we have been forced to prosecute.
If they would just let them go into a country, blow the **** out of the enemy, it's resources, it's people, it's morale, it's combat capability - then we could cut it drasticly.
But people just can't stomach that. Instead we have to go in half-assed, build a future force for us too fight, and rebuild everything we just got done blowing up.

Um, what? Have you been asleep the last 20 years? Holy sh*t what a bunch of crap that post is. Maybe that used to be the case but not any more.
Eisenhower was the last Republican who talked about the danger of the military industrial complex. After that it's been full speed ahead. Clinton, when he used the military got in and out, you can argue as to the effectiveness. Bush got in, and in and stayed and stayed after campaigning against nation building saying he wanted to bring Democracy to the middle east, and the Republicans were in lock-step right behind him. Again, you can argue over the effectiveness, but that much is true.
When Clinton tried to continue the Bush Sr. policy of reducing the military after the cold war, he was roundly criticized by the right for killing the military. Lean and fast? Rumsfeld even complained he didn't have enough people saying you go to war with the army you have, not the army you want while at the same time saying he could take Iraq and hold it easily with a small force firing Generals who disagreed with him.
Holy crap dude, where do you get this sh*t?
