You Chaney-haters need to wise up: Chaney's "irrational" need to go after Saddam has its roots in one unspoken piece of reality:
Saddam was up to his filthy little neck in terrorism.
And now that he's dead, his cult is dying off, and his supporters are falling away you're going to see all of these connections to terrorism start to leak out. The reality is that Saddam used terrorists for personal vendettas, and to extend the reach of his power without leaving any fingerprints behind. That's why people like Abu Nidal, Abu Abbas, and Carlos the Jackal have all been given sanctuary in Iraq.
Or maybe Saddam was just a "generous" guy and took these people in out of the goodness of his heart? Yeah, that's it.
Even now, people are beginning to revisit some of the more notorious terrorist events from the mid-Sixties on, and openly discuss Saddam's involvement. The fact of the matter is that you don't surround yourselves with terrorist organizations unless you intend on utilizing them at one point in time.
So if Chaney had a hard-on to go into Iraq, it is most likely because he (and a few others) had a little deeper background into the way Saddam Hussein operated.
And it very well may be possible that Saddam was actually linked to 9/11. Because, well, it seems SO unlikely for a guy who had an axe to grind with the United States to participate in an act like that.
