Any Alabaman's here? I'm just catching up on the latest news with your immigration law crack down and was curious about what is really going on there. Several articles I read indicate folks are walking away from homes, keeping kids out of school and in general the streets are much quieter all around. Fear over economic impact is a grave concern.

Doesn't seem like much of a national fuss compared to the Arizona situation a year ago, despite indication that the Alabama laws are tougher.

The bigger legal question is in Alabama if you marry your cousin is she still your Mom?

Seems like a reasonable move. After 52 weeks of unemployment benefits, cut them in half (the benefit dollars, not the illegals), kick out the illegals, and get unemployed to work in the fields, lawn care industries, and the mega-chicken farms. If they don't take the job, deport them too.

Win/Win/Win.

about time a state grew a sack and pass some tough illegal immigration laws. unlike AZ who after passing some, decided only to bend over backwards for the illegal population and have them declared unconstitutional. Maybe other states will follow suit.

Apologists for our open borders policy like to remind us of all the contributions that immigrants made to this nation in the past.

They conveniently forget to add two small details...it was legal immigration, and it was controlled.

Hey, these people that don't look like us are just looking for a better life. What's the harm? We should embrace them.

Yesterday I heard farmers b*tching that crops would rot in the field.

B*LL**** FLAG AT FULL MAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pay a fair wage, rather than the $5 an hour you currently pay illegals, and the unemployment in Bama will be reduced albeit temporary.......getting people off UE benefits for any length of time is a benefit considering our current situation.

I get this will cost us more at the market.......I'm willing to make this sacrafice to save my country. However I am not willing to pay one red cent more to protect illegal aliens current status.....OBAMA CARE/OPEN BORDER/ANCHOR BABIES.....this sh*t must stop.

BTW I find it quite interesting that not one tear jerking liberal has ever complained about the exploitation of the illegals.Oh yea....they see 25 million voters....my bad.

Before anyone ask me where's my compassion.........It's with my grandchildren and EVERY other LEGAL resident of this country.I'm all for immigration.....but only of the legal variety.

I believe the politically correct term for the illegals is 'undocumented Democrats'...

A federal appeals court has blocked enforcement of parts of a controversial immigration enforcement law in Alabama.
The injunction issued Friday from the 11th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals in Atlanta came after the U.S. Justice Department -- supported by a coalition of immigrant rights groups -- requested the legislation, known as HB 56, be put on hold until the larger constitutional questions can be addressed, a process that could take some months at least.
The Obama administration says the Constitution does not permit states to deter illegal immigration, saying an issue with foreign policy implications is the exclusive mandate of the federal government.
Alabama's law, passed by the legislature this summer, would allow state and local officials to check the immigration status of public school students; to detain suspected illegal aliens without bond; and make it a crime for immigrants who lack proper documents to conduct busine ss with the state for things like driver's licenses.
