What does the vote in Paris today mean in the grand scheme of things? We withheld a $60 million payment to Unesco, but am curious who benefits.

It is another little step at Palestine being recognized by the U.N. But, in the grand scheme it does nothing to resolve the West Bank border dispute, which is the real issue right now. Gaza is a lost cause. I think that the last several days of missile strikes into Israel from Gaza is much bigger in the grand scheme. A day or two more of missle attacks and Israel won't hold its air force back. Hopefully, they will give notice to the civilians to evacuate and then unleash hell on Gaza's infrastructure. maybe someday they will give up on Gaza or Egypt will annex it.

As part of the USA's impartiality in negotiating a lasting peace between Israel and the occupied Palestinian areas, the US had a law on the books dating back to 1990 that stated that the USA will cut off funding to any UN agency that allows Palestinian membership.

The financial threat was always expected to be enough to block any sort of Palestinian membership and therefore force the Palestinians to do things the US and Israeli way. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization voted 107-14 to accept them. 52 nations abstained. We have taken our ball and gone home.

We should keep our UN money and send the UN to Paris...
