Indiana 2008 Presidential Primary Election Fraud Probe Heats Up

Published December 07, 2011

Charity Rorie, a mother of four, sat in her Mishawaka, Ind., kitchen, stunned that her name appeared on a 2008 Democratic presidential primary petition for then-candidate Barack Obama.

"That's not my signature," she told Fox News, saying her signature is "absolutely" a fake. She also said she was troubled someone forged both her signature and that of her husband, Jeff, and listed personal details such as their address and birthdays.

"It's scary," Rorie said. "It's shocking. It definitely is illegal. A lot of people have already lost faith in politics and the whole realm of politics, so that just solidifies all of our worries and concerns."

Robert Hunter Jr. said his name was faked, too.

"I did not sign for Barack Obama," he told Fox News, adding his signature supporting the then-Illinois senator's effort to get on the primary ballot was also a forgery.

As he examined the Obama petition he held in his hands, Hunter pointed out that "I always put 'Junior' after my name, every time ... there's no 'Junior' there." He said the signature on the petition looks "very close" to his real one, but it clearly is not.

"My wife and I actually signed a petition for Hillary Clinton," he said. "I am an Obama fan, but not in the primaries I wasn't."

The prospect that theirs are two of an estimated 150 signatures that may have been forged on the petitions has raised the question of whether President Obama actually reached the legitimate number of signatures needed to be placed on the ballot in Indiana. Under state law, presidential candidates need to file 500 signatures from each of the state's nine congressional districts. Indiana election officials say that in St. Joseph County, the Obama campaign qualified with 534 signatures; Clinton's camp had 704. The certified signatures were never challenged.

"I had always thought that, now-President Obama, had earned his victory in Indiana," said the state's Republican chairman, Eric Holcomb. "But then I quickly learned that he had cheated his way on to the ballot in the primary."

The allegations that election fraud touched a race for the highest office in the land are at the center of an investigation by St. Joseph County Attorney Michael Dvorak. He would not comment, but sources say the probe is gaining steam as prosecutors delve into the petitions that sailed through the St. Joseph County Voter Registration Board, located in South Bend. There have been reports that as many as seven people may have been involved in an alleged conspiracy to fake the petitions.

Indiana Democratic Party Head Resigns as Fraud Probe Heats Up

Published December 12, 2011

The chairman of the Indiana Democratic Party announced his resignation Monday, as investigators probe allegations of election fraud stemming from the 2008 Democratic presidential primary.

Dan Parker, who served for seven years, did not cite the scandal as a reason for his decision. But the uproar over possible fraud in a race for the White House has already claimed the job of one county Democratic Chairman, who sources say was forced out because of the allegations.

Numerous signatures on petitions that placed then-candidates Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton on the party's primary ballot were allegedly forged and then certified by the St. Joseph County Voter Registration Office in South Bend.

St. Joseph County Prosecutor Mike Dvorak has launched an investigation.

Parker, in a statement, said that "after seven years, it is time for a new leader to embrace our past successes and take up our future challenges." He also wrote that "I love the Indiana Democratic Party, and it has been my great honor to serve at its Chair."

Benjamin Ray, the Indiana Democratic Party press secretary, told Fox News that the forgery allegations involving the presidential primary petitions were not a factor in Parker's decision to step down.

"No, absolutely not," Ray said.

When the allegations first broke in October, Parker issued a statement that "we continue to support the ongoing investigation to determine how this isolated incident occurred and hold anyone involved accountable."

The alleged forgeries have raised the question whether the Obama campaign actually filed the necessary number of signatures, 500 from the county, to get on the state's primary ballot. The 534 signatures that were certified to place Obama's name in contention, were never challenged. 704 signatures were certified for Clinton, according to state elections officials. An estimated 150 of the signatures on both petitions may be fakes, leaving open the possibility that, in at least President Obama's case, the number of legal signatures that were required to get on the ballot was not reached.

Several voters told Fox News that they never signed nor gave their names that appeared on the Obama petitions.

"It's scary," Charity Rorie said, adding that her signature and name, and those of her husband, were faked.

"It's shocking ... it definitely is illegal.”

Is this not a classic example of the way leftist operate ? Forget the original discussion and point fingers at the other side. Kinda reminds me of grade school behavior.
So just for your amusement, nobody here that I have seen thinks any politician is ''spotless'' as you put it.
Does this mean something like this election fraud should not be investgated ? I think not. This is not a left/right thing, it is an investigation of wrong doing by someone that happens to be on the left.

Indiana Lawmaker: Holder Absent on Primary Petition Fraud Case

Published December 18, 2011

The Obama administration is ignoring a petition forgery scandal unfolding in South Bend, Ind., a former top state elections official – now a U.S. congressman -- alleged Sunday, claiming he's still awaiting a response to a letter he's written to U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder about the case.

Republican Rep. Todd Rokita, who served eight years -- from 2002 to 2010 -- as Indiana's secretary of state, told Fox News that he has not received a response from Holder on either charges of election fraud in the 2008 Democratic presidential primary in his state or other issues of election integrity.

"We have to involve U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder. That's why I have written a letter to him, he has yet to respond to it, about this case. There are federal crimes for interfering with a federal election so he has jurisdiction. They are turning their heads on this and the ACORN cases that I brought to him," Rokita charged.

A criminal investigation is now underway by St. Joseph County Prosecuting Attorney Mike Dvorak into allegations that numerous signatures and names on Democratic Party petitions that put then-candidates Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton on the primary ballot were forged.

Voters have told Fox News that their signatures and personal information were fraudulent, and that they never signed the petitions that were certified by the St. Joseph County Voter Registration Board.

U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Indiana David A. Capp has previously declined to investigate the allegations, citing a lack of federal jurisdiction.

"The U.S. attorney does not investigate allegations of fraud in the submission of petitions by political parties for the placement of the names of candidates on the ballot for federal primary elections," Dvorak said in a statement in October after discussions with Capp.

"They do, however, investigate fraud in voter registration, the actual voting process, and in the tabulation of ballots."

The alleged forgeries have raised the question of whether the Obama campaign actually filed the necessary number of legal signatures, 500 from each congressional district, to get on the state's primary ballot.

State elections officials say the Obama camp qualified in the 2nd Congressional District with 534 signatures, the Clinton team with 704. But an estimated 150 signatures between both petitions may have been forged, according to reports, leaving open the possibility that, in at least President Obama's case, the number of legal signatures that were required to put his name on the ballot fell short.

Rokita said the president "may not have" legally qualified for the primary ballot if the number of alleged forgeries dropped his primary bid below the 500 legitimate signatures required.

"If this type of stuff is happening in Indiana, it's happening everywhere," he said. "It happened because of overzealous cheaters. People are cheating the system.”
