It's a great idea. Look how well Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac turned out.

Could turn into a phenomenal "cash cow", just like Medicaid and Medicare did decades ago. It would increase demand for services coupled with guaranteed payment. I could pay off my student loans!!!

Can't we just burn the lawyers and use them as a new energy source?

Sorry, only residents of a representative republic have a voice on issues like that.

I might be able to turn them into ethanol. Most of them are fermentable.

In a perfect world, our legal code would be simplified & arranged into orderly groups a la the Code of Hammurabi so that they are easily understood and enforced. Then all we'd need would be clerks to maintain records. Lawyers would be free to pursue other careers (medicine, engineering, Walmart...).

Same thing with our over-glorified, needlessly complicated, & totally useless (IMO) tax system. Make the tax code simple (5-5-5 or some such--- 9-9-9 is too high) with no loopholes & get rid of the need for cpa's. They can get jobs counting inventory at Kresge's or Foot-Rite.

That presumes people could read and comprehend. There are an almost infinite number of codes and there is still disputes as to definitions, meaning, intention and application of the code to facts. Nevertheless, the concept is interesting. I have often wondered why the Ten Commandments aren't enough. Anyhow, some history and a translation of the code are at http://www.fordham.edu/halsall/ancient/hamcode.asp
