If they really cared about the health and well being of the up and coming black generation they could do some much more trying to quell gang violence.
But they ignore it. Why? Because there is no benefit to them showing up. No face time on the news. No interviews. Nothing to gain and all the potential to lose whatever street cred they have. A community leader who cannot lead or affect change cannot be held up as a leader.
A hispanic guy with a white last name kills a black kid and its a major media story and it attracts these guys like flies to a turd. Its sad.

BUT: The real issue isn't who killed who. It's the "white" system that allowed Zimmerman to go free without even a trial.
And despite a lot of the pro-zimmerman facts that have leaked out recently, I agree with that premise. There should be a detailed investigation. If no trial is warranted, then a full report should have been provided to detail why.
A kid is dead. Even if he provoked Zimmerman, it merits a full scale investigation.
If the "don't stand down" law applies, then this will come out in court or in a report with supporting facts.
Meanwhile, the nation dons their hoodies and buy skittles by the truckload in blind support of a dead kid that may or may not have provoked his own demise.
It's sad.
There will be no winners this time.
Let's just hope we can minimize the degree by which we all lose.
And you can thank your president for adding fuel to the fire.
