I have been trying to think of the words to describe this cigar and they just seem to fail me...

The WHOLE story is long so hold on to your seats (and maybe take some no-doze).

I was beginning to think that I would have to call this Cigar "The Cursed Cuban"... I TRIED unsuccessfully for two nights to set aside the time required to properly enjoy this legendary Cigar.

On the third day, I had the day off, I decided to take it with me to the pool and try it there, listening to fine music, watching the ladies, and enjoying the sun.
I walked about gathering my things, grabbed the Churchill, but realized I had already shipped its tube home... I grabbed a Glass tub I had; it fit fine except for the inch of exposed end. Worrying about drying in the desert heat I wrapped the whole thing in a baggie and headed to the PX (military K-mart) as my prized triple flame lighter is mysteriously missing, and then on to catch the bus to the pool. Almost to the PX I realize I have forgotten my cutter, no problem I'll pick one up at the PX... NO CUTTER at the PX... Walk all the way back to the barracks to get my cutter, and all the way back to the PX to catch the bus.

The pool was nice, but too windy so I again delayed smoking it. Besides there was too much sun (about 120) and not enough ladies (fine or even otherwise.) :-(

Late in the evening with the sun down and the temp dropping into the chilly 90s I finally found a spot sat down and enjoyed...

First off, I did note the construction of this Cuban monster (several times), nearly perfect, silky wrapper, only VERY small veins, it was a beauty...
Pre-light I was in heaven, sweet cool bliss was promised.

Sadly (without my beloved triple flame) I had to use a Zippo to light... The burn started of slightly crooked but quickly righted its self and was ALMOST perfect throughout.

The flavors were cool and subtle, what amazed me is that they really changed throughout and I found myself excited to take the next draw to find what it would bring. Nuts, slight cocoa, cream, and many nuances I can't describe. There was one spot about 2/3s of the way down that it got hot for a bit (coincidently this was also the ONLY time that the burn became uneven... Any ideas?). But after a few draws it cooled down with a slightly minty taste (perhaps that was just my tongue after the heat...) very intriguing... I have never had a smoke that evolved this much. It was kind of like the gum in "Willy Wonka"... Leaving me wanting to call it "The Cuban Chameleon

A couple of sad notes... The ash, unfortunately it was quite dark and I can't really tell you about the color, but WORSE was the fact that it would not hold for more than an inch. The first time I admit, I tapped it on something accidentally, but from then on I was careful, and sure enough at an inch it would fall... Maybe Churchill NEEDED those Paper clips!

Another interesting point, when the ash did fall, unlike every other smoke I have had, that had a DEFINATE "cone" shape where it is burning, this had a nice low slightly rounded dome to it.

ALL in all, this was a WONDERFUL smoke, living up every bit to its mystique.

I TRIED to write this review last night... I even walked all the way over here and sat down in front of the computer for a bit... But I tell you... She beat me up and left my knees a wobbly. One #ELL of a kick-@$$ smoke!

I have one of those tubes. They are great for lugging around other cigars in. I smoked mine earlier this year but did not have the same experience as you. My palete is not adept at tasting the flavors. Actually I cut mine in half so I could enjoy 2 smokes. After thinking for a second or 2, I looked in my humidor and found another one of them. This one has a simple gold band that says R&J Churchill and on the other side it says Habana. Did your band look like that? This ones been sitting for two years, I hope it gives as much pleasure as yours.
Glad you could find the time to enjoy your smoke... Relax and enjoy the view.

Good luck with your remaining one... Find a special occasion for it! (Or MAKE a special occasion OF it!)

Thanks, I went to the pictures and saw it. Too bad about that cohiba. It must've been 8 inches long! Next time chop it in half if it is plugged. Maybe you will get one good smoke from it. I had a box of Cuban Cohibas that are 5x28? They were all hard to draw through.
Thanks for keeping us safe over there!
