A presidential election prediction model developed by two University of Colorado professors points to a big win for GOP presidential contender Mitt Romney in November.

The model, the only of its kind to use more than one state-level economic indicator, has correctly predicted the winner of every presidential election since 1980.

It predicts Romney winning the electoral college by a 320-218 margin and winning 52.9 percent of the popular vote when only the two major parties’ candidates are considered, the Associated Press reported Thursday.

Romney, it concluded, will win every state currently considered by pollsters to be a swing state, including Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Florida, Virginia, Colorado, New Hampshire and North Carolina.

The model even predicts Romney will win Minnesota and Maine’s Second Congressional District, the electoral votes of which most pollsters consider to be “safe” for President Obama. Nevada and Iowa are the only swing states it assigns to Obama.

“Based on our forecasting model, it becomes clear that the president is in electoral trouble,” explained Kenneth Bickers, a political science professor at the University of Colorado-Boulder who developed the prediction model with Michael Berry of University of Colorado-Denver.

“The apparent advantage of being a Democratic candidate and holding the White House disappears,” Berry noted, ”when the national unemployment rate hits 5.6 percent. The incumbency advantage enjoyed by President Obama, though statistically significant, is not great enough to offset high rates of unemployment currently experienced in many of the states.”

Bickers said large issues like the economy and the country’s overall direction tend to determine presidential elections. Computerized prediction models “suggest that presidential elections are about big things and the stewardship of the national economy,” he said. “It’s not about gaffes, political commercials or day-to-day campaign tactics. I find that heartening for our democracy.”

And many swing states showed close enough to a 50-50 split that factors other than the economy could tilt them in the opposite direction. Bicker and Berry also did not factor in third party candidates, such as Libertarian presidential nominee Gary Johnson, who Public Policy Polling, a Democratic-affiliated polling firm, has noted could significantly diminish Obama’s chances of winning New Mexico.

Yeah but does that model take into consideration the millions of dead Democrat voters who still vote? Think

What, you live in Chicago too?
Thats the Chicago way, it goes well with the first Mayor Daly's saying of "vote early and vote often!"

I guess you Republicans won't have any problem now if us Libertarians vote Libertarian. You have it in the bag. No need for our votes.

I have a libertarian streak in me a mile wide......BUT I UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES WOULD HELP OBAMA WIN AGAIN.If the libertarians had a viable prospect with any hope of pulling this off that'd be a different story.....but they don't.It isn't like this is a vote for Perot who put Clinton in office.Although I didn't agree with Clinton he was a capable man..........................unlike Obama.

Ron

With his signing of NAFTA...he doomed the US and rode the coattails of an economic boom created under the Great Communicator. His peccadilloes in the Oval Office of all places showed the respect he held for the office. His way out the door showed America the true lack of class he had and I for one won't forget what a sham the "man" was. Everything after has been a cashgrab and a SCHWEET Secretary of State position where you get your mortgage paid off!

He was capable though. The Empty Suit is NOT. This Manchurian Candidate has tipped the balance of American debt, judicial systems and entitlements towards the abyss. This is what happens when America doesn't do their diligence and surrenders their power at the polling booth. They took the bait and free candy willingly. See the buffoon you elected for what he is...a sheer utter failure of epic proportions. This not-ready-for-primetime player had no track record so the doe-eyed zombies believed what the talking heads on tv told them. There are some here that STILL do! Read the vitriol of Rick. Read the servitude of Robert. Read the panic in Cindy Brady's posts because Owedumba couldn't be led further to the left! Don't mistake them for misstating a thing. They're "water carriers" for the Kenyan King and Plugs O'Biden. They cannot see the harm the nation is in because of this man with with no record. They want a 2nd term of this jackhole so he can do what? ONE thing correctly? He hasn't done one thing correctly yet! So he can somehow prove himself by getting reelected with the help of the brainless dimwits that voted for him to begin with! See the Empty Suit for what he is. The "emperor" isn't wearing any "clothes". Say it louder than "Atlas Shrugged". Don't be dismayed by those that are doing the DNC's bidding. Brush it off for the good of America and for God's sake...Turn off your TV...do your OWN research on the people running.

I'm not going to begrudge anyone voting a 3rd party but like Ron clearly stated...its a toss away vote this time for sure though. As much as I want better leadership for America the choices are made. Vote your conscience. Its your right, but make damn sure your vote actually is for the good of America and not more Kash 4 Klunkers, Bailouts/Buyouts, Green technology failures at the taxpayer's demise, the lack of an actual budget, and the stacking of thieves, liars and whores rammed in cabinet positions that don't serve YOU!

Mitt isn't going to be able to solve our problems any better than Obama. Both parties are so flawed that they should just go away for the better of the country.

...and then the EU, IMF, World Bank and the UN can sweep in and clean the whole mess up!
