Well, I said I would post a thread when I finally won some smokes, so here it is! :o) --- I think part of the success lies in getting to the auction early enough to stake your claim and let it ride. If you can bid first using auto-bid, it seems you have a better chance of holding with a lowball offer that is still reasonable. ---- Anyway, I picked up some Padron Churchills and some CAO Gold Caronas. ---Have had both before and liked them and I will especially like them at the price I just paid for this new batch! --- Now as long as there isn't anything wrong with these smokes, I will be a happy camper. ----- P.S. Don't worry...I won't post everytime I win something! ;o) --- This was my first kill, and that is why I am typing this. CHEERS!

Having pursued a number of bidding strategies, I can tell you that so far, the only one I've found that works every time is to out-bid the others ... lol ... it's interesting to see that there's a rise and fall to how much winning bids sometimes can be ... I've won 5 packs for $8 one week, only to see them go for $14 the next ... if you know what you like (or are willing to experiment on unknowns) and have some idea of what you're willing to pay (it's a good deal if you think it is, no matter what others think) and exercise patience, you'll end up like most of us and win far too many bids for the well being of both your bank account and your wife's happiness about your cigar habit (you don't NEED more cigars!!!) ...

Hee hee...Hi Steve! --- Thanks for the reply! ---------- Well, I can see that I will need to be careful if I happen to strike a SLOW&LOW week! -- IF I won everything I have bids on right now, I would be looking at some serious $$, albeit great deals! ;o) ---- It is fun to bid here and unlike a site like EBAY, the stuff keeps being reposted, so you get multiple chances to get it CHEAP! -- A cheap ass such as myself likes that last part the best! :o)

I've done it ... two weeks in a row, in fact ... I put out about a dozen or 14 bids, each with ceilings I thought would be good deals, most of which I expected to lose ... and won damn near all of 'em ...

MrsS absolutely went into ORBIT and was not at all impressed with the fact that I paid VERY little for some cigars I really LIKE and might normally have paid more for ... of course, the over-limit fee I had to pay on one credit card DID have something to do with her unhappiness, but ...

Congratulations, Goose. You'll find that CBid service is great, and your cigars arrive in good "ready to light" condition. I'd be surprised if it was otherwise. The most fun I've had from the auction is trying brands I'd never give a second look. If you're like me, you lay down a bigger bid for a brand you've tried and liked than for a dark horse. And X is right, the auction is not a gamble where you win or lose. I guarantee you can always win if you want to...and if winning is important to you... veni, vedi, veci. For me it's the cigars...

Ouch STEVE! -- I might very well be in the same boat with the exception of the over limit fee.-- Since I pride myself on paying my balances off every month these devious credit card companies all give me these outrageous (and tempting) 15-25k credit lines! -- Fortunately, I have a degree of will power, at least when it comes to paying interest. -- Generally, if I can't afford to pay the thing off each month, I don't buy anything. --- (Starts looking at current bid list)----Hmmmm... That could be changing though! ;o)

Thanks M! -- Man! I wish these message boards had an EDIT FEATURE! -- I think our friends at CI should have a look into INFO POPs Ultimate BB software! --- Anyway, thanks for the assurance on the quality of the gars! -- I have been checking out the parent site for CB (Cigars International) and I am impressed with their selection, prices and service. --- In fact, I am working with their web folks right now trying to squash a BUG I found in the CB web site for MACs running IE 5.1.4 browsers, but I digress! :o)

Congratulations. You've got to be careful around here or, like me, you'll end up having to buy another humidor (you can get some good deals here on humidors too, but I digress).

I've never had a problem with shipping or the merchandise received.

Yo Pov! -- Actually, I've got TWO Humis already! :o) -- That is one of the dangers -- Being true to my astrological sign (Cancer the Crab) I enjoy a WELL STOCKED LARDER! -- Finding a site like this could very well put me in the poor house! :o)

Way to go goose. I am lucky because I buy for both myself and my fishin buddy who doesn't want to deal with the internet and trusts me to make the deals, he just writes the check for his half. Steve, it gets me out of the wife's "you don't NEED more cigars" as I just reply, "they're for Kerrie". And when I go crazy, 12 bids - 10 wins, it's only half a hit to my pocketbook. Everybody's got an angle.

goose, rest assured that the cigars come in great shape, as good as any smoke shop you could go to, except there's no tax and the prices CAN be much lower!

It starts to get bad Goosey, when you are out shopping, and a 100qt catches your eye. I have a fairly large closet in my smoking room, that I think is gonna be halved off for a closet humi. Oh, and I just upgraded my Visa another $3000. This could get ugly.

Cool Del!

I always wanted a walk in Humidor, but I don't have the right closets for that here.

Another great thing I am finding with CB is the large selection of 5 packs they offer! Seems to be far more variety than even some of my long time dealers offer.

Now instead of having to buy an entire box of some of the smokes I really like but smoke mainly on special occasions, I can just grab a 5 pack!

Saves some serious coin!

Good luck with that walk in Humidor! -- If you build it, you definitely should post some pictures on the picture section! :o)

Cheers!

SteveS--sorry i don't understand "MrsS absolutely went into ORBIT" i have seen this posted by lot's of guys with different phrases each time. neither toby nor i can understand one partner scolding another partner for spending money on the partners hobby, passion, or whatever. grownups don't scold each other. killing your spouse is one thing, but scolding is so child like.

My first little lot of winnings arrived today.

They were packed well and as was said above, the quality and condition of the smokes is every bit as good as any other cigar store I have purchased from. I am smoking a CAO Gold Corona as I write this. Nice smoke! A little on the spicey side, but for the deal I got, I am not complaining!

As for the scolding or worse from a wife or girlfriend for spending YOUR hard earned money for something you enjoy, I only have one thing to say.

In my book, thats grounds for divorce!
