(AP) — Iran is poised to double its output of higher-enriched uranium at its fortified underground facility, the U.N. nuclear agency said Friday — a development that puts Tehran within months of being able to make the core of a nuclear warhead.

In its report, the International Atomic Energy Agency said Iran was ready within days to ramp up its production of 20 percent enriched uranium at its plant at Fordo using 700 more centrifuges.

That would double Iran's present output and cut in half the time it would take to acquire enough of the substance needed to make a nuclear weapon, reducing it to just over three months.

In Iran? What do they have to say about the bomb and threats of destruction?

Their economy is crippled and there are shortages and job loss as a result. I have a feeling Iran is ripening for another popular uprising. Next time, it will succeed. If Jordan "goes off" or Israel and Gaza doesn't simmer down and another Muslim group jumps in, Iran will go ballistic. If something involving Syria and Israel escalates, that could set Iran off too. Just a matter of time....

As we learned from last week, believe only 50% of what any government entity tells you. They are simply sending the message fir which they will get their desired affect.

Iran in reality either already has the bomb or won't have it for another year.

Boom Go Da' Dynamite.

I'm all for bombing the nuke facilies but it won't happen under Obama... Biden made that clear... it's a ground war, if it comes to that, is what concerns me.... prolly sounds alittle selfish but I don't have any connection to Iraq... Army traing is manditory over there so I guess everyone is technically reservists... I guess the loyalty thing would come up and bad things would probaby happen to those that didn't want to fight... just guessing tho....Think

In the Iraq Iran War 1980-1988, the Iranians sent waves of people (much like the North Koreans will do eventually) into the teeth of mine fields and machine gun nests. The Iraqis just kept chopping them down.

All Obama needs is to get a couple of like minded senators on his side and we'll pisss away another 5 trillion and 5,000 American lives.

In order to help the economy, we should hire unemployed Greeks to fight for us, paying them minimum wage.

That was during the primary in '08. Then he rushed to a left of moderate position (compromising his stated principles) in order to get elected.

Gee that sounds REAL familiar, doesn't it? Anxious

No ground war between U.S. and Iran. Won't happen under current circumstances with Iraq v. Iran either. Iraq could never pull it off. Now, if Iran unilaterally invaded Iraq, the U.S. might get involved, but not on the ground.

Lost all respect for McCain now (except for his military service). He could help get me a free Obama phone and I wouldn't bother answering the call.

I'm just glad that the president is in charge. Just hand him an M4 and he'll go over there and personally take out Ahmadinejad, just like he did Bin Laden. Problem solved. We all can sleep safer, knowing the president is watching our backs. Just ask Ambassador Stevens....uh, bad example. Scratch that.

no chance that Iran and Syria are behind the Gaza/Hamas stuff taking place with Israel?...you know, just to divert the entire world from looking at their garbage.

I mean, they really do want Israel to survive, right?

Going on The View and partying with Beyonce and Jay-Z was more important than meeting with America's greatest ally in that region.

EAT IT!

America decided it wanted more of the same and voted for some Kenyan King again.

That's what I'm thinking, distract Israel while the final nuke pieces come together.

If the mid-east were a game of chess we would be on the losing side of checkmate.

The draft will be reinstated, industry will be revitalized, unemployment will drop and soldiers will be able to call home on their obama phones.

Amazing what people can do when they come out to vote.

Actually, I heard a commentator state that Israel and Gaza going at it right now is nothing but the first step in Netanyahu's reelection campaign with the vote coming in about 6-8 weeks.

Dershowitz was on a three person panel arguing on behalf of Israel on Peirce Morgan last night. The Palestinian representative went on and on about the family with children killed when their building was hit by a missile/bomb.

Dershowitz' response was something like: "Give me a break. Dead Palestinian babies are your best argument to the media to try to get the world to stop Israel. You purposely or at least knowingly intersperse missile sites, factories and storage facilities amongst the population. What do you expect?
"
In another repartee with the pro-cease fire panel member, who was arguing that Israel should stop its attacks on Gaza while cease fire negotiations are taking place in Egypt right now, Dershowitz' response was to the effect of "Really, I didn't know that. Why hasn't the public been told whether Israel has even been invited to those talks? Look, here is what I see: Gaza shoots of a bunch of rockets aimed at civilian population centers in Israel and hopes they kill Israelis. When Gaza runs out of rockets, only then does it begin to beg for a cease fire- while it quietly reloads its arsenal ands supplies only to begin launching rockets again and again. And, Gaza has the nerve to complain about malnutrition? It can bring all the rockets and rocket building supplies in but can't make sure its citizens have enough to eat? Give me a break please!"

Sad and scary as it all is, I had to laugh at the delivery...

When both sides want to fight, sometimes you just have to sit back and let them. The guy who steps in the middle trying to break it up always seems to get punched first.

U.S. sends warships near Israel in case evacuation needed

Three U.S. Navy amphibious warships are returning to the eastern Mediterranean to remain on standby in the event they are needed to assist Americans leaving Israel in the coming days, according to two U.S. officials.

The officials stressed an evacuation remains an extremely remote possibility and the Obama administration is not currently planning for one. Americans who wish to leave the region now are able to do so using commercial airlines.

But the decision to send the ships even if the event is such a remote contingency underscores the growing concern about where the Israel-Gaza conflict could be headed.

"This is due diligence. It is better to be prepared should there be a need," one official said Monday. Both officials said the ships would be used only for assisting Americans and not for any combat role.

The most immediate impact will be on the ships' crews and the estimated 2,500 Marines on board. They had been scheduled to return to Norfolk, Virginia, just after Thanksgiving; their homecoming will now be delayed several days depending on events, the officials said.

The ships involved are the USS Iwo Jima, the USS New York and the USS Gunston Hall. At the end of last week the ships were west of Gibraltar, before the decision was made to turn them around and send them back to the eastern Mediterranean, where they will remain for now.

The U.S. military also maintains three to four ships off the coast of Israel that are capable of shooting down ballistic missiles. That deployment has stretch for some months in the face of a potential ballistic threat from Iran.
