Are those Cohiba Esplendidos even real?? I saw them at a local shop too and they look shady as hell!! The band looks shanty and the box looks like it was made in my basement. Slim, I'm sure you would know more about these cigars.

These are DR gars made by a co. not licensed by Cohiba. There are still alot of these guys still around. The co. lost a court case,so they can't use the Cohiba name. They now sell under the name of Taino. I have had a few of these(Cohiba),not a bad gar,a little on the mild side. The authorized Co. General Cigar makes the Cohiba Red Dot label gars. X

... What xibbumbero said.

One thing to add, they were the original Dominican Republic Cohiba Esplendido (before General Cigar). They have been very inconsistant for the last year ... I bought a couple of boxes a couple of years ago. Some have been very good, others crap.

The reason there seems to be alot of them around (hurry and get these while supplies last, colector's items, etc.) is bands are being put on just about any dogrocket by unscrupulous factories, to get in on the 'must have these because they are no longer sold in the U.S.' craze ... and many are not what they claim to be.

I got a box of Taino churchills for under $25 a year or so ago from Lynn's cigars. I thought they were a super smoke for twice the price. I sent a couple to my son in the navy, where they got raves.

I just bought a box of yellow band, DR, cohiba torpedos. How fake are they? They smoke pretty good, do they have any value?

They are most likely not fake, just left over stock. There is no value to them, except as an inexpensive, mild smoke.

I got mine for about $2 each at CB, and there is a tobacconist here in CA that sells them for ... $16 each.
