...and several others but let's let Brewie and Vikki have at it...birds of a feather.

Just check the critical thinking at the door and they're too busy patting each other on the backs!

I do find it funny that the thread would attract trolly-mc-trollerson. I see he went straight for the personal attacks. Kinda ironic.

Of course!

He plays rubby Georgetown style!

You can tell he really didn't even read the article he posted. If he did...he'd see the glaring holes in it.

Don't mind the scarecrow. When he's not looking for a brain he plays the under medicated clown of Cbid.
And Wheel can't resist gay-homo jokes (I think the pressure to stay in the closet is getting to him).

... are you of the impression that there are many other sources of grant money?

Really... kind of doubt anywhere else would give a group money to do this, since there isn't much profit in it.

Maybe not "profit" in the traditional sense, but job (income) security, recognition, more grants, etc.

If the NRA published a "study" on gun violence, would you view the results with skepticism?

More like, kind of doubt anywhere else would give a group money to do this, since there isn't much sense in it.

... I'm not seeing where the contention is here. If you think the study is bogus, check the materials and methods section. If you think it is worthless to do the study, ask yourself if you had evidence of the amount of destruction trolls bring to the ability to have a cogent conversation before this.

This isn't rocket science, nor is it supposed to be divisive. There are trolls on every side of a political discussion, so I don't know why there would be any defensiveness. And hell, I doubt this study got much grant money (if it makes you feel any better).

Mother Jones...unnamed sources...I could go on, but what's the point? You only saw the word "Troll" and you're trying to shoehorn it on Cinderella's ugly stepsister's foot. Good luck with your faulty point based on assumptions with no credibility! Then again, that's what you do! Georgetown rubby players getting a beatdown for having the ghey...Chick-Fil-A...yada yada yada...only on this one you forgot the crocodile tears!

The argument has always been that studies published by private organizations (pharmaceutical companies, private charities, cigar forum polls, anti-smoking agencies) are more suspect than those done by a university, since universities have the tenure system. In theory, having tenure allows professors to study and publish opinions which are possibly contrary to popular opinion, if their research were to point them in that direction. (this is not going to be a discussion of whether the tenure system is abused, or whether there aren't other forces influencing them, I'm just pointing out that I would be more inclined to believe a study performed by someone who's future employment isn't immediately at the mercy of the results.)

Other than that, I'll take data from anywhere. If you suspect they are skewing the conclusions, then look at the raw data. In a PUBLISHED study (not the link I provided, but the actual article, published in a reputable journal) they always include the raw data.

But you know... trolls gotta troll... seems to be the only thing they can do.

It is important to point out that while it is certainly not true of most posters, the trolling that I do provides a needed and valued public service to my fellow BOTL'S.

Being one the few with the clarity of thought, sufficiently sharp gray matter, and the ability to courageously accept the reality of the situation, I provide an ongoing benefit by shining the light of truth and logic on the important issues of the day.

No need to thank me.
