+2. It is not written anywhere in the Constitution that states that we are to be the police force for the rest of the world.

Isolationism is great in theory but when the U.S. tries to practice it we get involved in involved in wars anyway.

Something I found:

American Isolationism

Isolationism

When America joined the Great War in 1917, it tilted the balance against the Central Powers (Germany and her allies), because of her large population and industrial might. When the war ended, President Wilson was in a strong position to influence the peace treaties -the peace settlement was based in fact upon his "Fourteen Points", e.g. a new international body called the League of Nations was to be set up to keep the peace between nations.
Sadly the Americans turned their backs on Wilson (he lost the 1920 election) and on Europe. Many Americans believed that the sacrifices they had made in the Great War had been a waste of money and men. They were opposed to anything that might drag America into another European war. So the USA did not ratify the Treaty of Versailles (officially accept it), nor did she join the League of Nations or the International Court of Justice. Many Americans simply wanted to enjoy the prosperity that had developed in the previous decade and felt that foreign entanglements would threaten it.
During the 1920's and 1930's, America was in isolation, i.e. she kept I herself to herself and took little part in international relations I (conferences and treaties between the nations) .In addition America, isolated herself in terms of trade. Tariffs (import duties) were put on foreign goods to protect American industry. (Because they could not sell their goods to America, European countries could not afford to buy agricultural goods (farm produce) from the USA. This was one of the causes of the Depression.)
America turned its back on Europe in another way. It cut down the number of immigrants allowed into the USA. America was a nation of immigrants. (The native peoples being the dwindling number of Indians, who were largely restricted to remote reservations.) Up until the Great War millions of people, mainly from Europe, had gone to America to seek their fortune and/or escape poverty and persecution. British people, especially the Irish, Germans and Jews, particularly
from Russia, were amongst the largest groups. In 1921 the "open door" policy ended and quotas (a fixed number each year) were introduced. By 1929 only 150,000 immigrants per year were allowed. What was especially unfair was that the system favoured W.A.S.P.s (White Anglo-Saxon Protestants) from northern Europe. The people who were most desperate to get to America, e.g. the poor of Italy and Greece and Adriatics found it difficult to get visas (formal entry documents).

The gub-mint has a vested interest in keeping our military spread across the globe; less chance of a coup.

A war is one thing...but being the "police" and "taking care of" other peoples issues is running our economy to the breaking point.

There is a line in between being the world's "nanny" and pure isolationism that needs to be reached, and IMO that means we need to cut off all foreign economic/military aid (but not humanitarian aid) as well as bring all our Soldiers home.

The dysfunctional leaders of out government are whats breaking out country, totally out of touch and basically fu@ked up, it's all a game to them and we ( the people) are loosing. If not for our presence in South Korea what do you think would hold back the crazy basturd in North Korea from sending up missiles? Just 1 example.

I am in favor of strict isolationism. Close all foreign bases. Those soldiers would make really good border guards. Let the rest of the world deal with its own crap.

What is the appropriate number of Americans servicemen that should die and the appropriate amount of taxpayer dollars that should be funded through tax increases to defend South Korea from North Korea so that the South Koreans don't have to be bothered with defending themselves?

We need to set up a budget for this so we can track our war success rate.

Yup, especially since our bases will be the first targets of NK artillery if the junior jackass in NK gets serious.

The only reason our bases are there is so they will be the first target. Then the trip-wire is sprung and we have an excuse for more military adventurism.

For one reason or another, they've been fighting since Jesus and will continue to do so whether we are there or not.

I'll tell you what I think...I'd rather see the money go to Detroit than some craphole like Syria.

Unless we're going to actually use a nuclear device to kill all of them.

Why are we always the "we's" that have to do something? Last I checked there are ~195 independent countries in the world and 193 of those are members of the UN. I guess the rational is the "royal we" is going to take care of things?

You think the defense department is going through a budget squeeze now, imagine if they closed most of the foreign bases? The Chinese are a bigger threat than ever. And Germany unsupervised has never gone wrong.

We won't whack the bases or aid. Can't imagine the number of dirtballs in the 'Stans that are getting paid off to be less trouble than they can be.

With that said, taking an across the board 20% cut, year after year would be good, with an escalation of 40% cut if violence against Americans in their country/region doesn't decline over the prior year.

Financial methodone for these rubbish dumpsters.
