The US is to send distinctly low-key official representation to Lady Thatcher's funeral on Wednesday, with a delegation led by George Shultz and James Baker, who both served as US secretary of state while Thatcher was in power.

While Barack Obama was invited, he has opted to send a presidential delegation comprising no serving politicians. Shultz was secretary of state to Ronald Reagan while Baker served the elder George Bush. Also representing Obama will be Barbara Stephenson, chargé d'affaires at the US embassy in London, and Louis Susman, the recently departed ambassador to Britain.

LOL!!! I think times of national crisis qualify as a reasonable excuse to beg off of a funeral. Particularly one of a dignitary so far out of office...I'm clearly not one for pomp and circumstance but we are in the midst of a major terror investigation...the biggest since 9/11...as the scripture goes, "let the dead bury their dead".

It would only be a reasonable excuse if my man "B" or even J-Dog were planning to attend and then had to cancel. A cancellation would be understandable. In the grand scheme of things, golf isn't good in the UK this time of year.

WTF is Biden doing ? Trying to come up with a way to ban bombs ? He's only slightly less useful as boy wonder, put him and his teeth on the plane and get him out of the country for a while. He's bound to say something stupid about this anyway.

I'm pretty sure neither of them would have gotten along in the grand scheme of things. I'm sure he wasn't a big fan of her policies.

To one of if not the greatest ally this nation has ever had...he's removed the bust of Churchill...which was a gift...sent the Queen an iPod with his speeches on it and some movies with the wrong codec so they couldn't watch them...and now this?

I just looked it up...When President Reagan died their nation sent the Queen, the sitting Prime Minister and Margaret Thatcher herself to his funeral.

The Kenyan King dared send a delegation to Hugo Chavez's funeral...a socialist dictator, but can't even make it...or tell Joe because he's too busy shooting shotguns off his deck...or JOhnKErry because he's busy with the entire Heinz insider trading scandal...hell...this classless POS can golf it up with his buddies for a week spending millions...Joe can kiss the ring of a Pope that he has NOTHING in common with but to the Iron Lady's send off from this big blue marble he won't be sending anyone.
