a while back, Slimboli posted some info about Kopi Luwak, the world's most expensive coffee ... after I showed the description on the Website to the characters in my office, it was decided to buy some and try it ... which we did this morning ... in fact, I'm still working on mine as I write this

It might be the world's most expensive coffee, but it sure isn't the world's best ... it's not BAD at all, just not all that great ... you can get coffee that tastes this good at any c-store in town. The t-shirt is great, though ... we got one of them and are now arguing over whose it will be ... perhaps we'll have to get one for everyone ... lol

I'm impressed that someone actually had the 'cajones' to try it! Hey, they say it grows on you ... and your next cup may be even better.

I spent a lot of time in Costa Rica. Absolutely the best coffee I have ever purchased is from there. In Costa Rica the price ran (a few years ago) $2-$3 a pound for coffee bought in the supermercado. There is a wed site for Britts coffee http://www.cafebritt.com/
The coffee from the web site is nowhere near the local price (thats why I always brought an empty suitcase) That is the brand most people in Costa Rica (upper to upper middle class) buy. Get the dark roast. One of the keys is, if you can dip your spoon in a cup and can see it, you haven't brewed it strong enough.
You'll appreciate the taste.

This could vault you to "legend" status around here! How was it different? How much coffee will the $75 get you? I'm guessing just a few pots.

Good point raised. I am a Starbucks subscriber. I gotta have it for that quality caffeine buzz. With the good stuff, you have to make it strong. Make that STRONG. Otherwise, you may as well be drinking Maxwell House. All that said, I still think the Kopi Luwak is way overpriced. Steve, are you transported to a higher plane of awareness or something?

there is a self confidence that goes along with saying you can drink from a cat's ass.

You should see the t-shirt we got with the coffee ... if you didn't see them when Slim first posted the info, you should ... it gives real definition to that statement about drinking from the cats a**

X,I myself think Starchucks is way overated. If you want the freshest possible coffee you can get,you gotta Homeroast your own green coffee beans.I do this and it's by far the best/freshest coffee I've ever tasted. The oils in the rosted coffee beans start to break down almost immediately and lose much of their flavor after the fisrt week.Try Home roast,it's very easy, even a bit cheaper and you'll never go back.

I spent about 8 months in southeastasia and the best coffee i had was up in the toraja land the highlands of Celebes or now Sulawesi, the brew water and coffee together in a pot no filter, so ones the coffee is finished you have to wait a couple of minutes for the sud to settle in your cup, this means you can't drink it all the way to the bottom!

Steve, when I saw the title of this thread I thought it was going to be about the DE Natural I sent! Maybe you should smoke that with your next cup of this coffee. Funk you up good! I think I'll stick with my Sumatran coffee.

That web link you gave has a moving picture. So if you have a slow connection wait a min to see them get the beans from the cat.Pretty funny!
My home made batch is almost ready to grind. Just have to pick out some stubborn kitty litter particles. Those darn diamonds. I thought they were real for a minute.

Coffee, like cigars is very much a matter of taste. I hear people rave about stuff I think is crap. I have tried many of the "best" coffee brands and I like my Starbucks. I think it would sell better if they called Kopi Luwak "Cat's ass coffee". The T-shirt is good!

Actually the Kopi Luwak (Cat's Ass Coffee) isn't all that bad ... I noticed that at first, while the flavor was not distinctly different from regular coffee, it had no bitterness to it at all and like a good cigar, tended to "develop" as one progressed ... also, like a good cigar, it had a rather long lasting satisfaction quality ... there was no need to immediately pour a second cup right away. I can't honestly say it's worth the money and for much less, there are many coffee brands that are superior, but it was a hoot to try it ... we bought a quarter pound of it and we've still got enough to brew quite a few more pots (and yes, there really IS new meaning there ... lol)

I was lucky to have some of Jim's coffee when he stayed at my place in Chi-town when he came in for the Land of Lincoln Herf last Oct..That BY FAR was the BEST coffee I've ever had..There was a layer of oil (like an oilslick) from the freshly roasted beans on the surface of the brewed coffee..Just incredible!
(still waiting for your email Jimbo..I got a hankering for that coffee again..Let's do a trade!..LOL)

Reminds me of a time about 15 years ago when my brother bought a pound of Jamacian Blue Mountain for 23 bucks (now I think its blended and sells for $40)
He told our dad howmuch he paid for it. Dad said "What!!!? What do thay have only one bush on that mountain?"

Anyone here like Gevalia?

True Jamacian Blue Mountain is never blended ... at least where I get it from. It would totally lose that wonderful flavor, if it were ...

I use to belong to Gevalia's shipmnet plan for about a year ... then got tired of it. I also tried Green Mountainn Coffee Growers (they have Blue Mountain). Once the internet came around ... I found coffee at other sources, somtimes cheaper.

I mean, we're a lot like the bunch 'o nuts on the CB board, if you know what I mean ...

'cept I'm the only cigar smoker ... the same boss who bought the coffee also recently bought one of those 'ironizer' things and plugged it in near me ... (hint-hint)
