Bummer about Hasek. Legace is a great back-up, but in my mind he's no starter. I hope they go after a decent goalie and don't pull the same thing that they did with Osgood after Vernon left.

A rabid hockey fan in Tampa(that used to live near Detroit)knows that when you lose a player of Hasek's ability and reload with Joseph it's a good thing. Psssssssttttt! Just kick the Cup on over here again. It's staying in Motown!!

Not if the Avs have anything to say about it. Hopefully we'll keep our sh*t together this year!

You MUST be a wings fan, it shows in the arrogant dismissal. (I'm not calling you arrogant, just the dismissal) I say we let the teams do the talking when the season starts!

Yes I am a Detroit Red Wings fan! There's a couple of things that make me say they'll have the Cup next year again without reservation. They went out and secured the best goalie available. That's huge. Cujo was the ONLY reason that Toronto went as far as it did. I'm not dissing them because they're young and went above everyone's expectations to be as close to the finals as they were. Carolina? They won't be back in the finals next year. They only have one line and so far have done nothing to retool a second line. Avs you say? Let's see, they shut down Forsberg and Sakic and then forced Roy out of the pipes. That was huge. They're not the same team they were 3-4 years ago. The Red Wings have the same players(Yzerman might pull what Forsberg did last season!)and a goalie with the Stanley Cup waiting for him to hoist. I wish you luck rooting for them, but the outcome is going to be the same. Either way, I'll take the NHL over any other pro game out there. It is the coolest game on earth!

Well, sure it's the coolest game on Earth ... the other games aren't played on ice!!!

Race cars, baseball, basketball, football, horse-racing, would ALL be cooler if played in ice as hockey is to say nothing of a damn sight crazier ... can you imagine Marv Alberts' bloopers reel if the Kentucky Derby or the World Series were played on ice? (yeah, I know ... if the WS is played much later in the year than it is already, it WILL be on ice)

Dr - I miss Hockey as well, and your right the Avs are not the same team, but with all of the young talent we're developing I think we might be setting up for a nice run. And no matter what anyone says Roy is the best goalie, the defense just wasn't doing their jobs, and Hartley was a fool playing effectively three lines! I think with some new strategy and more development of the young talent the Avs are gonna win 3-5 cups over the next 10 years. Especially since Detroit has no chance in hell of maintaining their team simply because of age! I can't wait for football and hockey to start back up, until then I'll enjoy baseball, but it's not the same...

The Wings have some grey, and I'll admit to that. They're reloading real quiet though. The "aged" players are all Hall of Fame contenders with numbers that can't be ignored. Most just want to ride out their twilight years with Detroit because it truly is Hockeytown. Some just want a chance to get on another Stanley Cup. Very few of the Wings are playing for money (as a deciding factor to be there) and it's been that way since the late 80's when the Wings became dedicated to returning to it's winning tradition. Datsyuk,Avery,Devereaux,Williams,Kohn,Dandenault, and Fischer are all under 27(most are 21-25)and are major contributors already. Roy is to Colorado what Yzerman is to Detroit. You CAN'T replace them with someone else. The loss of Scotty could be perceived as a weakness for Detroit, but rest assured Dave and Barry can do a superb job. I've got the NHL season ticket and it's worth it! The season will be here before you know it. I've even got my season tickets for the Lightning. I know,I know, what you're thinking but it's NHL hockey and when the Wings come to town it's just like being at the Joe!

Don't say that satelite word!! ;) I work for AT&T Broadband which meens I get NHL season ticket for 1/2 price, you know I'll have it for the avs games. And hopefully I can catch som San Jose vs Avs. However, I wouldn't go as far as getting season tickets!! If you like we can place a friendly wager on who will have a better record this year? I think your underestimating the loss of scotty and Detroit's age. Yes Detroit has at least 5 hall of famers on their team and some promising youngsters. But the Avs are close as far as hall of famers as well and at 5-10 years younger, plus the young talent. Let me know if you want to wager, maybe we do it for a box of stogies?
