No need to duck and cover if you have bravery and courage. Things that this country severely lacks these days. Im no jarhead, in fact im well educated and rounded, but brawn is the ROOT of defense and safety. You want to lose a war quickly? Create as many paper tigers as you can to fool the enemy with nothing to back it up. A professional soldier's primary mentality is that we must hope for peace and prepare for war. Our new enemy doesnt want to target military personnel, they want CIVILIAN personnel. does that tell you something?

one of the quotes i hold to my heart closely until this day is the following:
"We will always remember. We will always be proud. We will always be prepared, so we may always be free."

Ronald Reagan

Davey, great quotation from a great leader! I am embarrassed to admit that I had forgotten that one, but now will remember it along with "Let's Roll"! Charlie

Thanks for the reminder of a great quote from a President who changed a lot of things in this country for the better ... and Dave ... pararescue, eh? I salute you! My son was a Navy cSAR during those same years ... I have the utmost respect and admiration for guys that are made of the sort of stuff required for those jobs ...

Dave, you know that "So Others May Live" motto you mention is also on my son's uniform ... on the more light-hearted side, he's got a t-shirt with the unit's logo on the chest, a blue-water life guard emblem on the sleeve and on the back, a cartoon image of a SAR swimmer all decked out in frogman attire, holding a bikini-clad, busty babe around the waist in one arm and the line winching them up out of the ocean and into the chopper with the other ... under the picture is the motto "you fall, we haul ... saving your a** is our job"

Oh, and for the rest of you who may not fully understand just how high-caliber guys like Dave have to be, go rent that George Clooney movie "Perfect Storm" (which IS based on true events)

take particular note of those AF Pararescue guys who come to save ol' George and tell me, just what sort of cojones THAT takes ... if you've seen it, you already know just how high a degree of respect and admiration guys like this have earned ...

That particular unit that was deployed is the 106th Rescue Wing. They specialize in homeland and sever weather rescue operations. Ive had my share of drowning. It can get that bad quickly. I was in the 320th STO (Special Tactics and Operations Group) specializing in combat rescue and unconventional warfare. All in all, Pararescue is very diversified. Most other Special Operations units from other branches are very diversified as well. There's a team for everything...
