ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. (AP) - A central Kentucky theater owner who trained pilots during the Vietnam War is refusing to show the nation's top movie, "The Butler" because one of the stars is Jane Fonda who was an outspoken opponent of the conflict.

Ike Boutwell owns MoviePalace and Showtime Cinemas in Elizabethtown. He tells The News-Enterprise (http://bit.ly/16QB9Er) he won't show the popular flick about a butler who served eight U.S. presidents because it has Fonda starring as former first lady Nancy Reagan.

Boutwell said Fonda's statements and demonstrations against the Vietnam War caused him to view her as a traitor, and he won't show any movie involving her in his theaters.

The Korean War veteran said: "I trained hundreds of pilots to fly, many of whom Ms. Fonda clapped and cheered as they were shot down."

So it's stupid to have principles?

I doubt he'll lose much business, as most folks will just watch whatever else is playing.
So how is it "stupid"?

The Fonda-Vietnam debacle is fairly well documented.

I don't recall reading anything about her cheering when pilots were shot down.

Neither do I. knowing what we do now and should have known then, we should never have been there. Her disrespect of those who served and returned was awful, but I do believe she understands that now.

Yeah, OK. I don't recollect her "clapping" as our planes were shot down. But I do recall the video and photos of her in enemy territory grinning and playing like a retarded monkey on an anti-aircraft gun. I don't think that was just a movie prop. I'm pretty sure that gun was intended to shoot down Americans. And she blabbered on Radio Hanoi like Tokyo Rose. That's a few steps beyond "disrespecting returning Americans."

Yes, I know she's said she regrets taking the photo. More accurately, she regrets that her empty-headed faux intellectual stunt to impress her equally empty-headed Hollywood Chardonnay swilling pals blew up, spattering bull**** all over her sorry career for the next 40 years.

I wouldn't go see a movie staring Jane Fonda - or Oprah - if they had $100 bills taped to the popcorn boxes.

In my next post, I will tell you how I really feel. Not talking

It was awful behavior for sure.....the result of being a stupid idealistic over-privileged kid in a time of social turmoil.

I saw the film.

She was sitting there smiling and clapping as the NVA (I believe it was NVA) battery was shooting at US warplanes. Whether they hit them or not, I am unaware.

Frankly speaking, she is a traitor. And the fact that she was married to Ted Turner means that, by default, she is an insufferable human being.

And you know this....how?

from everything I've seen and read, she hasn't changed a bit. She is still the same loony, self-promoting, entitled Hollywood brat that she was in the 1960s.

I'd say that she's like the village bicycle - everyone has had a ride.

Plus, you have to question her character and judgment for marrying that total and complete tool Ted Turner. No amount of wealth can make that doorknob a human being...
