I've seen conflicting ideas on tubo storage. Most of my mixed batch have cedar liners, but some don't. I have, in the past, just stuck them in the humidor with the cap off, and have suffered no ill effects. I have heard to never pop the top until ready to smoke. I haven't kept any very long so I don't know the long term effect. What is the consensus here?

My take one it? I think tubos are just for show, a pretty package to sell a product. While they protect the cigar from damage in transit ... they do not keep the cigar humidified.

I have had too many tubo's that were sealed tight, only to have dry cigars inside. As soon as I get them, I remove them from the tube a put them in my humidor. I save the tubes to put them back in when I gift them to friends.

What you are doing is fine ... opening the tops and then putting them in your humidor. I just can't see how a cigar can age properly with the correct humidity while it is held in stasis (so to speak) ...

Slim's storage idea is on track. If anyone wants to use the tubes for other purposes they work well also.
If you wanna use them for travel you can moisten the cedar lining and leave it in your humidor for a few days.(lid off) It's ready to hold a cigar in your pocket while you walk to the beach or walk to the next hole. My travel humidor is 6 churchill size tubes rubber-banned together. Be careful wetting the lining and sticking a cigar in right away. They have a very high humidity for a while. Nothing against them but some folks here are too dang picky about 70/70. I have a tin of Cubanitos that live in my 100+ degree car for two weeks until they are burned. They are not that even dry in this f---king rainforest.

I like the tube/rubber band travel humidor idea.
