Harry Reid Voted The Most Hated Congressional Leader :Blocked Funding For Vets And Don’t Care About Kids With Cancer
Posted on 9 October, 2013

via washingtonexaminer

Senate Democrats blocked four resolutions to fund government programs, including paying the National Guard and opening national parks, as Republicans offered the limited measures in an attempt to win the government shutdown fight by financing popular programs and leaving those they oppose untouched.

“Unbelievably, today Senate Democrats went on record to oppose funding for National Guard and Reserve salaries, veterans’ services, lifesaving medicine and cures, and national parks and museums,” Senate Republican Conference chairman John Thune, R-S.D., said in a release following the procedural battle.

“Congress unanimously passed a bill to ensure active-duty military personnel are paid during this lapse in government funding, and it’s unclear why Senate Democrats wouldn’t pass similar measures to fund these important services,” Thune said.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., asked for unanimous consent to pass funding for the Veterans Affairs Department and Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, requested unanimous consent to pass a bill funding the national parks and monuments. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., rejected both.

“Senator Reid is countering Republicans’ UC request with a request to pass a clean [continuing resolution] that reopens the entire government,” Reid spokesman Adam Jentleson tweeted.

Thune offered a measure that would ensure the National Guard and Reserve units do not see their pay interrupted, and Sen. Roy Blunt, R-Mo., called for the Senate to fund the National Institutes of Health. Sen. ****** Durbin, D-Ill., blocked the measures.

Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., defended the maneuvers during a press conference Thursday afternoon. “To fund these piecemeal bills would give Ted Cruz a veto power over what is funded and what isn’t,” Schumer said. “We are not going along with that — how could we?”

It makes me SICK seeing the GOP using the military as a Political PAWN when less then 20% of these Pen15 puffers have never served in the military.

Only Congress can vote to appropriate money to run the Federal government. They have chosen not to. When Congressmen get indignant about any government programs that aren't funded it is unfnbelievable.

Last I checked the GOP shut down the government over ObamaCare and had not a care in the world about anyone. They knew this would happen.

In my mind they should have went after entitlements. ACA is a LAW.

Entitlements are law. Get you stinking hands off our entitlements.

What they should have done is raise taxes on people living in South Carolina.

I agree, Taps.

By the way, why is the government still shut down, anyway? I haven't heard a peep about Obamacare for over a week. If it isn't an issue, pass a damn budget -- or at least a CR.

Also, by the way, DC is really getting the shaft here. This city is getting bent over when the ineptituded of the knuckleheads on the hill are preventing this city from spending its OWN TAX DOLLARS...more unfnbelievableness

Why? All of this is just a political shadow play of absurdity put on to distract the citizens from our elected official's complete contempt of the general population and their own incompetence in performing the jobs that we elected and pay them to do.

Both sides only care about coming out of this shutdown and being able to proclaim that they have "won." All they care about is keeping their jobs, pay & power until they can retire on the government tit and become a lobbyist for a PAC and get the real payout.

Do you really think that any of these politicians give two squirts of piss for anyone who is out of work or not being paid during the shutdown? Notice that they are still getting paid to do nothing. horse

I wish I could put the "Sarcasm" smiley behind this post but that would just be too cynical.

I've been rethinking my previous post and I'm beginning to think that we are really chained to a wall in a cave looking at shadows cast on a blank wall or maybe we are all in the Matrix. Either way we're screwed. Kind of a Plato’s Closet thing.

Meh, we can ride this out and get back on track a bit. The recession we are still generally coming out of is a good, opportune time.

Not worried as much as you guys are. I have confidence this is a "blip", albe it a long and big one, and that we have the ability and resources to get out of our mess- even the hard way. Remember, We have been fighting war(s) for nearly a decade and this recession hurt the "business" of government too- big time. In the long run, we need to be worried about our currency remaining in demand worldwide (oil dollars) and emerging nations' economic and goods production abilities.Besides, I will educate them as well as possible, no matter what it takes and they, hopefully will remain somewhere towards the upper part of the food chain.

So, line up the votes and overturn the votes that prevailed. But, stop obstructing in the meantime.

Do you think Cruz, tea-partiers or Boehner really care about anyone's well being?

Doesn't matter. The fact is we have all been stripped of our right to choose. It is the first time in US history where every American is forced to buy something or pay a fine/tax (however you justify it). Not to mention what we are forced to buy is highly unregulated and the companies impose major influence on every multi-millionaire in office that is supposed to be running this country for the people. Yet the people running this country for the people exempt themselves from the law they impose on the people? What's next... is the guberment going to become involved in your auto insurance too? We do own stock in GM? Animal Farm?

Health coverage is not a 'right'. Just like having a cell-phone is NOT a basic need. Neither should be managed, covered, or offered by our guberment.

If they can open the Hall for all the immigrant votes they are 'buying', then open it for the men & women that fought for this country.

You got a plan for paying off 17 trillion and rising?! 20 trillion once Obama leaves office. It is a bit more than a blip. When you actually look at the taxation that would be required, it is quite apparent that we would be talking about decades of pain. Not gonna happen. I'll take my free stuff instead.

We've been fighting wars pretty much since WW2. It is our leading export. This is why petrodollars rule and our currency will stay in demand. Challenge it and you will get bombed and destabilized.
